The history of the company dates back nearly two centuries - from 1915, when the first MAN diesel engine was launched. Since then, she has been a world leader and unquestioned authority in the field of diesel engineering. Today, the concern's branches are located in more than one hundred and fifty countries of the world. Representative offices are managed by a head office located in Augsburg.
Of interest is the fact from the history of the company that at one time it was very actively involved in the Third Reich, which was never destined to become a thousand-year-old. Between January forty-third and almost until the very end of Nazism, in May forty-fifth, the serial armored vehicle Pz Kpfw V, better known as the Panther, became the main and best tank of the Wehrmacht from the assembly line of the plants of this glorious concern. The MAN engine was installed on it, which experts unanimously recognize as the most powerful diesel engine of the time. The disadvantages of the Panther are the complexity and high cost of production, but by no means technical specifications. In its parameters, it was second only to our famous "thirty-four".
Now, of course, times have changed, and the company's products have a completely peaceful purpose. Diesel production is not the only area of its activity. A wide range of products of the concern also includes turbochargers, gas engines, chemical reactors, propellers and much more equipment.
For many decades, MAN marine engines have been playing the role of the main driving force of bulk carriers, bulk carriers, barges and tankers, regardless of their size and power range. According to statistics, MAN engines are installed on 48 thousand ships of various displacement, profile and specifics.
The four-stroke diesel engines produced by the company ideally combine tremendous power with optimal speed. They are perfect for many types of sea transport - ferries, cargo, passenger, cruise, merchant and multi-purpose vessels of large displacement. Approximately half of all marine commercial cargo turnover is carried out by ships, the driving force of which is the MAN engine.
Another priority area of concern is the manufacture of diesel engines for power plants, the vast majority of which today are focused on the use of various types of fuel. In addition to traditional natural gas and fuel oil, sometimes even crude oil is used. The company's powerful energy engines are capable of operating on virtually any type of fuel material that is commercially available. It is these qualities, combined with unpretentiousness, a large resource and ease of maintenance, that made the engines of the concern superpopular in the Third World countries, where often high-quality fuel is simply absent.
