“Cannon” - a theater located in St. Petersburg - celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2015. An amazing combination of dramatic and musical art creates a special atmosphere of performances and gives brightness to each project.
Theater Creation
Theater "Cannon" opened in 1989 with a production of "Swineherd". The idea was inspired by Irina Bronds, who is currently the director and creative director, and Tatyana Kramorova. In 1996, the cultural institution received the status of the State. At the opening, the theater meant only a children's repertoire, but by 2014 there were productions for an adult audience. This was favored by widespread need, visitor appreciation, and production need.
The theater received its name “Cannon” thanks to billiards. In a big game, this is the concept of a hit, when the main ball (which is hit) in the course of its movement hits two more balls. In the theater, this idea can be deciphered as a triple creation of drama, dance and music on the same stage. The second version of the history of the name is more romantic and closer to the truth - it is an operetta sound.

"Carom" - a theater that has become a real family for Irina Bronds. After graduating from the St. Petersburg Conservatory, she first worked in the Lenconcert. She was an author and performer. I always studied with children and wrote music - songs in a dramatic genre, bright, characteristic.
Children's studio at the theater
Theater "Cannon" is not the first to create a studio for children at its base. But each institution has its own reasons. The idea of creating a studio at the musical theater was to introduce children to the great art and their diverse development. Classes are held Monday through Friday every day. Many studio participants are engaged in theater productions as extras and stage performers.
According to Irina Bronds, she is not against such a role as "travesty" (adult actors playing children), if it is a high-level travesty. But the modern young viewer is more demanding on quality than 50 years ago. Therefore, in the theater “Cannon”, children on stage play children, which gives more credibility and persuasiveness.
The first production, in which the children from the studio took part, was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Initially, it was thought that the guys would play the roles of gnomes, but the musical parts turned out to be difficult material for them. As a result, the guys participated in images of nature, mass scenes.

- "Joseph and his amazing dream cloak." The first Russian production of a musical from biblical history. Love, dark envy and fraternal forgiveness in the plot, along with the chic melodies of Andrew Webber, turn the project into a stunning spectacle of mind and sensitivity.
- "Firebird". A symbol of a happy existence and a great dream. The magical light of the golden wings of the Bird for some is a source of peace, for others - a symbol of wealth. Only Berendey realizes that this is the soul of the whole world, which protects the good and love of all things.
- "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". In the play, the song “Wider Circle” is played, which the audience sings along with the artists. Brave gnomes believe in goodness and justice, contrary to the wiles of the Evil Queen, they help Snow White to meet her beloved Prince.
- "History Thumbelina." The little girl finds herself in a huge world where everything seems terrible to her and does not look like a house. Nature created us different, but not evil. The ability to dream and take care of others opens the way to the magical Land of Good. Only attention to the child gives us the opportunity to make him happy.
- "King Deer." The old fairy tale of Gozzi has found a new birth. Under all masks are simply people who want love. This great secret is an example of a sad story with a good ending and reveal the actors of the play.
- "Mary Poppins". A project with the well-known compositions of Dunaevsky, as well as new songs that do not need to be afraid of change. The courage of actions and the courage of thought - this is the main engine of progress of good deeds and good mood.
Theater “Cannon” (St. Petersburg) has in its repertoire the musicals “The Adventures of Pinocchio”, “The Tale of Lost Time”, “Three Fat Men”, “The Princess Frog”, “The Wonder Tree”, “Amphibian Man”.

Not only spectators and critics appreciate the work of the theater. Almost every production of the “Cannon” theater is the pearl of any festival. “Golden Mask”, “Theaters for Children”, “Golden Spotlights” - performances take the maximum number of awards at all competitive programs.
In 2009, the musical “Cherbourg Umbrellas” became the event of the year. The composer Legrand, present at the premiere, praised the Russian version of the project. In 2014, the premiere of the play “June 31” (stage version) was visited by poetry author Ilya Reznik.

"Carom" - a theater for children and a house for artists
For 25 years, the state musical has not had its own scene. The performances are in the Palace of Culture of the Leningrad City Council and Vyborg DC. In 2006, the city administration allocated a permanent platform for the theater - this is the former recreation center named after Nogina. The building is still under reconstruction, but the artists are looking forward to moving.
The Carom Theater (SPB) is a living art, where the music of Mary Poppins is not a phonogram, but the breath of an orchestra. Good vocals that expresses the idea, and most importantly - the children. The students of the studio are a continuation and a mirror of life.
