Word wrap is one of the most important functions of a text editor. With its help, you can achieve two very positive things when formatting. Firstly, the text obtained as a result will take up less space, since its placement will be as compact as possible. Secondly, if this option is disabled, then at the end of the line the program will transfer the entire last word to a new row, which no longer fits in the current one. If such a word is long, then the line in which it did not fit will look unnaturally stretched, which spoils the aesthetic perception of the document.
Word wrap in Word 2003 is enabled through the "Tools" menu, where you should select a sub-item called "Language". After going to this tab, the user will have access to the necessary editing tool, which is called "hyphenation ...". After examining the window that opens, you can see that it provides not only automatic placement, but also a number of other useful functions that facilitate flexible configuration.
If the user limits himself to simply putting a mark in the "Automatic placement ..." field and confirms his actions by pressing the "Ok" button, the program itself will put word wrap throughout the document. However, if you wish, you can manually manually transfer for selected words. In this case, the program will show the version of breaking the word into syllables, from which the user can choose the option that suits him. This is done in cases where, for example, the total number of pages of a document is important, but some very long words violate the harmony of external perception.
You can enable the mode in question both at the initial stage of document formation, and during its final editing in Word. Word wrapping will most often be useful for final formatting, as otherwise significant changes can result in word shifts, resulting in elements broken down into their constituent parts not at the end of the line, but at other places.
When setting up additional options, it is necessary to pay attention to the item “Zone Width ...”. By default, the value of this parameter is 0.63 cm. This is the size of the field relative to the right edge of the document, within which word wrap will be placed. Accordingly, the lower the value of its value, the more even the right side of the formatted file will look.
In the place where the transfer is carried out, Word sets a special non-printing symbol "soft transfer". If desired, it can be deleted manually by turning on the hidden sign display mode. Also, if there are a large number of such characters in the text (for example, when scanning), you can automatically replace them by applying the “Cntrl + F” capabilities, where in the “Replace” tab, select “More”.
In the updated Word (Office 2007, 2010, etc.), word wrap is done a little differently. In order to gain control over this function, you need to find the “Page Layout” tab there. In the toolbar that opens, there is a Page Settings menu. If you go into it, the option "hyphenation" will become available.
