The Pskov region is often called the edge of lakes. Only large here there are more than three thousand, and small reservoirs, and even ponds, it seems, no one counted. Therefore, when we say "fishing in the Pskov region", we mean mainly fishing on the lakes. The region is also not poor in rivers. The largest waterway is the Great. However, experienced anglers prefer to fish near the mouth, since the food supply is richer in the lakes. On the other hand, some rocks of aquatic inhabitants are kept near oxygen-enriched running water. About the species composition of fish, "bread" places and seasonal features of local fishing, read this article.
Pskov-Peipsi Lake
What is this pond? Pskov-Peipsi Lake is the largest in the region and the third largest in Europe (after Onega and Ladoga). The name is not spelled hyphenally: the reservoir has the form of a "figure eight". In fact, these are two lakes, interconnected by a narrow channel. Despite its considerable size - 150 km in length, 50 km in width, an area of โโ3.5 thousand km 2 , this body of water is shallow. The greatest depth is 6-8 meters, and basically, the bottom is three meters from the surface of the water. And this circumstance makes the Pskov-Peipsi lake the most fishy. Water in shallow water quickly warms up, which creates excellent conditions for the development of plankton and the growth of algae. Here bream, zander, perch, pike are found in abundance. It is not uncommon to catch carp, vendace, roach, tench and whitefish. Fishing in the Pskov region on this lake is conducted mainly from the shore. The pond is located directly on the border with Estonia, and boats are not allowed to fish everywhere.

Zizycka lake
This pond is the second largest in the Pskov region. The lake is also shallow and boasts an excellent food supply for fish. Demand begets supply. On the shores of Lake Peipsi and iลพycki there are many bases where you can hire an experienced huntsman, rent ammunition or just rent a vacation house. Paid fishing in the Pskov region gives confidence in the result. Here bream, pike, perch, smelt, asp, ide are perfectly caught. If in Pskov-Peipsi Lake there are 42 species of fish, then in Zhizhitsky a little less - about thirty. But what a breed! Pikeperch, catfish, burbot, silver bream, glue, tench, rudd, ruff, crucian carp, bluefin, gudgeon, eel, black lamprey, loach, dace, plucking, top, chub, snapper, bullfin. Winter fishing is also possible here.
Polisto and Ale
Smaller lakes, such as Dvigne-Velinskoye, Spaster, Polisto and Ale, are also teeming with fish. In terms of productivity, they are comparable to
paid ponds, in which enterprising people artificially launched carp, grass carp and trout. The third largest lake in the area is called Dvin. Like Pskov-Peipsi, it has the shape of a figure eight. That is, it consists of the Dvina and Velinsky lakes connected by a strait. The average depth of the reservoir is two meters. The dark bottom and the presence of bottom holes create excellent conditions for the habitat of catfish and
crayfish. Fishing in the Pskov region on Spaster will not only allow you to return home with a trophy (pikeperch, pike, bleak or bream), but also have a wonderful time at the Lesnaya Gavan recreation center. From the waters of Ale, which is on the Bezhanitskaya Upland, one can catch
brook trout, smelt, vendace and asp. At Polisto, in the east of the region, the banks are swampy, densely covered with reeds. Grayling, zander, catfish and crayfish are found here.
Fishing in Pskov on Velikaya
In general, there are many rivers in this lake region. However, in terms of fishing, the Great attracts the most attention. The length of this river is 430 kilometers. Across the channel catch scammers. This fish is small, weighing about 400 grams, but it is very common, and catching a whole cage will not be difficult even for a novice angler. On runs and large tributaries, pike are found. Catfish live in bottom pits and whirlpools, but every year smaller specimens are caught. Experienced anglers fish in the lower reaches of the Great - closer to the "bread place" - Pskov-Peipsi Lake. Then without problems you can catch a bream, burbot and pike. On Velikaya, seasonal fishing in the Pskov region is also popular. 2014, with mild winters and early spring, quickly sent zander to spawn upstream. In the autumn months, therefore, one should expect reverse migration. Also often caught on a fishing rod and bream weighing more than two kilograms.
Winter fishing in the Pskov region
Seasoned local hunters divide the cold season into three periods. The first and last ice are usually the most productive. Before winter, the fish wants to โpump fatโ, and in the springtime it is too hungry and loses its vigilance. It is time for the most severe frosts, when all ponds are chained with thick ice, is called the deaf winter. Fish is not very active then. It is preferable to catch near the coast. From the holes you can get burbot, ide, raw, ubiquitous pike, roach. In addition to the water bodies listed above, the Lovat River should also be mentioned. In summer, huge catfish and eels as thick as a manโs hand are pulled out of pits littered with fireflies. In winter, with some luck, you can also harvest a good crop.
