Those who are familiar with the activities of Vsevolod Emilievich Meyerhold will certainly understand why the Doctor Dapertutto Theater is located in Penza and where it got its name from. A famous director was born in this city. Dapertutto is one of his pseudonyms.
Start of activity
In Penza there is the Center for theatrical art "Meyerhold’s House". Dr. Dapertutto's Theater is part of it.
The building in which the center is located previously belonged to the director. Now its artistic director is N. A. Kugel. In her work, she continues to embody Meyerhold's innovative ideas.
Few people know that the Dr. Dapertutto Theater is not the first such organization in this house. At one time in the museum, which was later transformed into the Center, there was a studio called “Stage Scene”, consisting of great actors, musicians. However, it was closed in 2001. In 2003, its place was taken by the Theater of Doctor Dapertutto. This project existed before. In 2001, its participants received a grant from the president. As now, the Doctor Dapertutto Theater presented an unusual play of actors to the public. They not only play roles, but also play music, sing live. And during their performances they use puppets, that is, they also possess the skill of puppeteers. Due to its originality, the theater staff got the opportunity to play on the stage, equipped in the former living room of Meyerhold’s house.
Unusual atmosphere
Another interesting feature of the theater is that there are no women among its actors. A small troupe of ten people consists of only men. It also adds a twist to the performance, as you have to play female roles. And the viewer is always interested in such transformations.
Hearing about the Theater of Doctor Dapertutto (Penza), a person paints in his imagination a picture of large halls, high ceilings, a spacious stage. But this is not here. The whole Theater of Doctor Dapertutto (Penza), reviews of which are always only positive, occupies a room of 67.5 m 2 . The scene has a size of only 8x4 meters. Thanks to this, the audience of the theater has a feeling that they are involved in the very process of what is happening on the stage. And this is not surprising, because the audience is located very close to it.

According to the artistic director of the theater, his team has long been ready to play on the stage more quickly, since with each performance it is becoming increasingly difficult to figure out how to move in a confined space, how to use light and other theater attributes more effectively. Although the audience is happy with everything, judging by their reviews and the fact that tickets for performances are always sold out. There are only 60 seats in the hall, so tickets are sold out at the box office on the very first day sales start.
Rich choice
The theater of Doctor Dapertutto (Penza), whose repertoire is made not only on the basis of classical works, can be visited not only by adults, but also by children. Posters must indicate the age, after which you can see one or another performance. For example, the Neapolitan tale "Three Oranges" can be seen even by seven-year-old children. They put on the stage of the theater of Shakespeare, Bulgakov, Saltykov-Shchedrin, Gogol, Hoffmann and other famous authors. The repertoire is constantly changing. Spectators who have already been to some shows can attend other interesting performances.
You'll like it
Actors playing on the stage of the theater are always admired by the public. All of them are superbly prepared, have extensive experience in theatrical activities, but still each viewer chooses for himself a certain artist, whose work he likes the most.
You can bring flowers to the theater and thank the troupe for your pleasure. Many theatergoers come to Penza specifically to visit the Meyerhold House and never leave disappointed. The performances are really impressive, and some are even a little shocked. Interactive elements are used in the performances, so the viewer is involved in the action itself, which is also unusual and interesting.
Viewers celebrate the play "Widows" based on the play of the Polish writer Mrozhek. It tells about the relationship between men and women and belongs to the genre of absurdity. And of course, it’s interesting to see how men deal with female roles. It is recommended to visit the play “Venetian Artists”, which is based on a play written 400 years ago by Ben Johnson. Its plot, which touches on the problem of the relationship between rich and poor, honest and vile, is relevant in our time. But it’s better to see everything with your own eyes. Perhaps in the near future the theater will receive a new spacious room, and then it will have even more fans.
