Kurumoch International Airport is located in the village of Bereza, between two large cities: Samara and Tolyatti. In 2015, more than 2.2 million passengers were served here. According to the results of the year, it is among the ten largest airports in Russia.
History of origin and development
Officially considered the opening date of the airport on December 19, 1957. On this day, an order was signed to create a fourth-class airport of Kurumoch.
The airport was built until 1960. This year, training flights were allowed on An-10 and Il-18 aircraft. From February of the following year, the Kuibyshev-Moscow flight began to depart. It was an An-10 aircraft carrying cargo.
On the same plane, but a few months later, the first flights for people began. In mid-May, a passenger flight to Mineralnye Vody was sent. Immediately after this, flights began to be carried out to Leningrad, Sverdlovsk, Tashkent, Tbilisi, Adler.
By the beginning of the seventies, 700 thousand people had used the airport services. Cargo transportation amounted to 27 thousand tons.
In the late eighties, the airport underwent reconstruction. New facilities were being built to improve infrastructure. By this time, the construction of the second runway, which allowed to accept larger aircraft, was completed.
Kurumoch International Airport received its status in 1992. A year later, the international terminal began its work.
In 1994-1995, the airport was renamed several times. Kurumoch - the airport returned its traditional name in 2002.
In 2007, a large sum was allocated from the country's budget for reconstruction, which was planned to be completed by 2014.
By 2011, 96% of the airport’s shares were in the hands of the Samara Region Development Corporation. And already in January next year, the reconstruction and construction of a new complex of buildings began. The use of the new terminal began in January 2015.
General characteristics
The airport is located at a distance of 35 kilometers from Samara and at a distance of 45 kilometers from Togliatti.
Kurumoch Airport can serve aircraft of various types, including An-124, Tu-204, Airbus-A330, Il-96 and other, lighter versions.

How to get to the airport and back
There are several ways to get to the airport. The easiest way is to take a taxi.
The second option is route transport. He leaves from the site located next to the terminal. Tickets are sold at the box office, in the arrivals hall. Bus number 652 runs regularly along two routes: Kurumoch (airport) –Samara, Kurumoch – Tolyatti.

Incidents
During its existence at the airport there were four serious disasters.
In the disaster that occurred on March 8, 1965, 30 people died. Of these, 9 crew members and 21 passengers. The plane was controlled by an intern, and the inspector was nearby. During the climb due to malfunction of the horizon in snowfall, the pilots lost their orientation. The plane crashed to the ground.
The second disaster occurred on July 9, 1973. As a result of the destruction of the engine, the fuselage was damaged. The splinters killed two passengers. Two more were injured.
A serious disaster due to the fault of the pilot occurred on October 20, 1986. The landing gear broke during landing. The plane lay on its belly and in this position moved about three hundred meters. The fuselage is half broken. A fuel leak caused a fire. In total there were 93 people on board. Of these, 69 died.
The latest disaster, also related to crew errors, occurred on March 17, 2007. Not reaching the runway, the plane sat on the ground, continuing to move by inertia. Then he rolled over and broke into pieces. Killed 6 people, 27 were injured.
