Many people prefer to watch foreign films without translation, that is, in the original, but with subtitles. This is especially true for those who learn a particular language and strive to learn to perceive it by ear. Also, subtitles are simply indispensable for people with a hearing impairment. And, perhaps, someone is making a home video, where I would also like to insert the written text. Can I make subtitles for films on my own? Yes, it is absolutely real. All that is needed to complete this task is the installation of one of the special video editing programs. One of them is Adobe Premier Pro.
Download and install this editor on your computer, open and create a new project in it. Next, you need to import the file with the movie or other video and place it on the video track. In order to embed subtitles, in the “File” menu, find the “New” command and create a caption using it. When the window intended for this opens, you need to copy or paste the text you need into it into it. It should be placed at the bottom of the screen. Depending on the overall color gamut of the image, try to make the inscription contrasting to make it convenient to read. That is, if the general background is light, the credits should be dark, and vice versa.
The created text should be located exactly under the frame in which the phrase sounds on the video track located above the main track. It is necessary to pay attention to the speed with which the inscription appears and disappears. After the subtitles have been sewn in, you need to check whether you have time to read them. To do this, run the slider on the player by pressing the space bar.
It is necessary to ensure that the inscriptions do not overlap one another, are noticeable in the frame and appear at the right time. You can make a preview of the video directly in Adobe Premier Pro. When you are sure that everything is done carefully, you can start exporting the movie from the project.
There is another program that can help those who don’t know how to embed subtitles. It is called Pinnacle Studio. It can also be downloaded on the Internet and installed on your computer. When you do this, open it and download the video you need by going to tab 2 “Installation” and clicking on the icon with the image of a folder without an arrow. Drag the opened file with the mouse into the bottom window, which is called "My Movie 1".
Before embroidering subtitles, you will need to divide the entire movie into parts. How many there will be depends on the amount of text that sounds in the film. You need to choose a site where there are two or three small phrases. You should be careful if they fit into two lines of captions (it is not recommended to do more than two lines, as it will be too difficult to read). Once you have decided, set the slider at the beginning of the phrase, click once on the frame, and then right-click on the menu in which to select “Split clip”. After that, put the slider in that part of the video where the desired text ends, and split the clip again.
The next step, how to embed subtitles, will be the process of their insertion. To do this, select with your mouse any part of the cut video where you need to paste the text, then click on the letter “T” located among the buttons with icons on the left side of the screen.
You will see many sample titles. Select any of them and double-click the left mouse button. You will see that this pattern appeared in the bottom line right below the frame you need. Here on it, now you also need to double-click so that the editing window appears. Here you can insert the necessary text and experiment with the size, color and shape of the font.
You can also choose the location of future titles by moving and turning the window. As soon as you are satisfied with the result, click OK. This will save the changes and return you to your video, where you can scroll through what you’ve got on the viewing screen on the right and select the next passage to insert captions. Until you decide that you can output the movie, you can edit the text inserted into it as often as you like.
