Severny Airport was founded in 1929 and is located in the Zaelsin district of Novosibirsk. For eighty-two years of its existence, he "saw" a lot. In the terrible years of World War II, it was a rear airport, actively developing in the postwar years. In 1959, the terminal building was built. This time can rightfully be considered the heyday of the airport. In 1959, a second airport called Tolmachevo was built in Novosibirsk.
Starring
Severny Airport (Novosibirsk) has changed its status and has faded into the background. Although in those days he was very loved by the townspeople. Soon it began to be operated for the needs of small aircraft with the status of “city airport”. Novosibirsk gradually got used to the secondary role of Severny, which served regional and local airlines. He also hosted sports aircraft. In many ways, such a decline in status at the Severny Airport (Novosibirsk) has earned due to its location. After all, it is located within the city, and, subject to a north-west wind, planes are forced to land, flying over the center of Novosibirsk, which, of course, was not slow in affecting flight safety.
Arsenal Airfields
Severny Airport (Novosibirsk) had three runways in its arsenal. The coating of one was from asphalt concrete, the other two strips are unpaved.
Severny Airport (Novosibirsk) could receive the following aircraft: An-2, 12, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 38, 72, 74, Yak-40 and L-410, all types of helicopters. Flights were carried out mainly on An-24 aircraft to Abakan, Nizhnevartovsk, Novokuznetsk, Novy Urengoy, Salekhard, Khanty-Mansiysk and other cities.
Change of ownership
The territory of the airport is also famous for its aircraft repair plant, which has eight Mi-8 helicopters. Since 2005, the Novosibirsk-Avia Open Joint-Stock Company becomes the owner of the airport. Sports flights on airplanes of Novosibirsk aviation clubs became the main specialization of the Severny airport. A significant event was the holding in 2008 of the world championship in aerobatics. All flights were carried out on Yak-52 aircraft. It was a celebration of sports aviation, aerial acrobatics and parachuting, which forever inscribed the air platform in history.
Retired
The airport is currently closed. In many respects this was facilitated by the sharp deterioration of the situation in the nineties. The decrease in the number of air transportation, loss-making transactions for the sale of property, misuse and inefficient use of budget funds led to the bankruptcy of the enterprise and the sale of property. Gradually, Tolmachevo Airport gained priority due to its more advantageous location and modern technological equipment. Since February 1, 2011, the Severny Airport (Novosibirsk) has been closed and does not function.
The architectural plan for the development of the city provides for the construction of a residential neighborhood with the same name on the site of the Severny airport. And it was decided to leave the terminal building as a historical monument.
