Description
This option is responsible for the intelligent control of the cooler fan speed. It reduces the speed of its rotation during downtime and low load of the PC, when the processor operating temperature drops significantly.
Enabling this feature positively affects the noise level of the cooling system, and in some versions of the BIOS allows manual switching between intelligent control and user mode. The latter implies the appointment of the number of fan revolutions as a percentage of the maximum allowable by the owner of the computer.
There is also the option CPU Speed Fan, which displays the current rotation speed of the CPU cooling system. In some cases, indicators are accompanied by color highlighting of information: blue accompanies a normal value, red - lowered.
However, warnings often fail when using more modern silent cooling systems. In this case, it is better to turn off the fan speed control.
CPU fan error - what is it?
A message about this error appears when you turn on the PC at the initial stage of the download. It signals a malfunction in the operation of the central processor cooler, detected by BIOS during the diagnosis of system parameters.
In general, the problem can be circumvented without a solution by pressing the key indicated in the notification, but you will have to do this every time you restart or turn on the computer, which is somewhat inconvenient. Therefore, you will need to understand in detail the causes of the error.
BIOS malfunction
The most common source of CPU Fan Error messages are incorrect BIOS settings. Sometimes a reset to factory settings leads to this result if the cooler is connected to another connector that is not controlled by the I / O system, or if the PC is used for a long time.
In the first case, you need to switch the cable of the cooling system to the desired connector and set the CPU Fan Speed to Auto. If this procedure cannot be done, then the monitoring system must be turned off, because erroneous warnings will not stop.
If it’s the age of iron, then replacing the BIOS battery or setting the maximum fan speed can help, but this will significantly increase the noise level.
Invalid user settings.
Sometimes an error related to the CPU Fan (that is, it was written in the section above) occurs when the cooler rotates manually by the user, to reduce the load on the cooling system. To get rid of the problem message, you need to return the value of the speed parameters to the original one or enable intelligent CPU cooler control.
If the user has not changed anything in the settings of the cooling system, you should reset the BIOS to the factory settings, since they are often optimal for the correct operation of the PC.
Physical causes of the malfunction
The above method can help, but sometimes the root of the problem lies precisely in the hardware, and not in its software component and a failure in the parameters of the CPU Fan option. Thus, if manipulating the BIOS does not help, you should check whether the cooler works at all by opening the system unit with the computer turned on.
If not, you need to find the cause of this malfunction. It can be:
- Heavy fan contamination. With extensive dust accumulations, the rotation speed decreases, and sometimes the cooler stops altogether. In this case, you need to clean it and start the computer again to check if the problem is fixed.
- The cooling system is connected to another connector. The desired connector is called cpu_fan and is located next to the processor: it needs to connect the cooler cable to it.
- Lack of connection of the cooling system to the motherboard. The solution in this case is elementary, therefore it does not make sense to describe it here.
- In extremely rare cases, there is a complete malfunction of the cooler, however, this only happens when the machine has been exceeded.
If everything is okay with the BIOS settings, the cooling system is working, but the error message is still present, perhaps the sensor monitoring the number of fan revolutions is faulty. Its replacement is carried out in the service center, and if you do not want to spend money, the cooler speed monitoring system is simply turned off.
Temporary way around a CPU Fan error
As mentioned above, the problem can be ignored with healthy equipment. To do this, you need to deactivate the cooler speed control service in the BIOS so that you do not press F1 at each boot.
It’s better to start by turning off the cooling system check in the Power section (or similar in meaning). The names of this function may vary slightly, but you can always find them by the phrase CPU Fan or Speed Fan, which are almost always present in the name. Next, for the parameter, you need to set the value to Ignored or N / A.
If you cannot find such a function, you can simply turn off the request to press a certain key when it detects any errors during boot. However, this option is suitable only for fully functional equipment, so you should not resort to the instructions below if the cooling system has not been tested.
So, to disable this option, you should go into the BIOS and find the tab that is responsible for choosing the method of the OS boot and configure its parameters. The names may vary depending on the version of the I / O system, but usually the word Boot is present in them.
Then you need to find the option called Wait for F1 If Error, which you need to disable by setting it to Disable. After this setting, you need to save and restart the computer.
If this instruction is correctly followed, the CPU Fan Error error will no longer bother and take extra time at system startup until the next BIOS reset. However, if this option is not available in the existing I / O system implementation, and all the above methods do not work, then it will not work to get rid of the problem without replacing the motherboard .
