Charging for the eyes according to Zhdanov is currently a common technique for restoring vision, based on the work of the American ophthalmologist of the late XIX - early XX centuries, William Bates. In modern Russia, Zhdanov is considered his most famous follower and popularizer of ideas. Despite the fact that the works and methods of Bates were recognized as unscientific, there are still quite a lot of people who believe in the effectiveness of such gymnastics. In this article we will tell you what Zhdanov’s method is based on, what problems it can help, how to use it wisely.
Vision problems
Today, many of our compatriots are trying to restore vision thanks to charging for the eyes according to Zhdanov. The follower of Bates himself argues that the technique should be used by everyone who has vision problems, and they do not have indications for the operation.
In addition to the ideas of Bates, Zhdanov included the practice of yoga in the basis of his developments. The exercises that he advises to perform are supposedly aimed not only at improving eyesight, but also about the general well-being of a person and his immunity. In addition to gymnastics, the professor advises eating right, giving up nicotine and alcohol, and doing general strengthening physical education.
Gymnastics for the eyes according to Zhdanov helps to combat hyperopia, myopia, astigmatism. For each of these pathologies, he compiled a list of specific exercises.
Vladimir Zhdanov
Vladimir Georgievich Zhdanov is a popular domestic public figure. He is 69 years old, currently he heads the Union of the struggle for national sobriety. Known as a popularizer of non-medical methods of getting rid of tobacco, alcohol and restoration of vision.
In 1972, he graduated from the Physics Department of Novosibirsk State University. Received a Ph.D. in optics. He taught at the Pedagogical Institute in Novosibirsk.
The turning point in his life occurred in 1983, when he read the report of Academician Fedor Uglov on the social and medical consequences of drinking in the Soviet Union. After that, he decided to devote his life to introducing as many compatriots as possible to the report. He quickly became an active public figure, an informal leader of the sobering movement in the USSR.
In 1994, Professor Zhdanov, as he himself claims, using the Bates method completely restored his vision, defeating farsightedness. Since then, he has been engaged in its study and improvement, as well as dissemination. In addition to lectures on the dangers and negative effects of drinking alcohol, Professor Zhdanov began talking about restoring vision. In addition to performing certain exercises, he advised taking nutritional supplements, which he sold after his performances.
It is noteworthy that at the same time, the origin of the title of professor from Zhdanov remains not completely clear. He held this position since 2000, heading the Department of Psychoanalysis and Practical Psychology at a non-governmental educational institution called the Siberian Humanitarian and Environmental Institute. Then the university closed, Zhdanov himself claimed that the rector was dead, and the new leader was not able to save the educational institution. Moreover, when exactly this happened, he does not specify.
The status of this institution remains unclear. Some researchers did not find any traces of it at all. Others claim that the institution existed, even issued its own newspaper, but never received a license to carry out educational activities.
In recent years, Zhdanov lives in Moscow, heads the department of practical psychology at the International Slavic Academy.
Basic Rules
There are several key rules that should be followed when performing gymnastics for the eyes of Professor Zhdanov, regardless of what specific pathology you are trying to cope with.
To achieve the best result, do not forget about the following recommendations:
- a set of exercises is allowed to be repeated no more than three times a day;
- before starting classes, be sure to remove glasses or contact lenses;
- perform each exercise at least three times;
- make sure that the muscles of the face do not participate in the gymnastics, only eyeballs should work;
- Before embarking on a particular treatment complex, be sure to consult your ophthalmologist.
Please note that when performing gymnastics for the eyes according to Zhdanov, one cannot make sharp movements with eyeballs, and a patient suffering from severe myopia (with -4 vision) should be used with extreme caution. Be sure to consult with your doctor so as not to harm your body without aggravating its condition. Most exercises are recommended to start with a small warm-up, raising your eyes up and down, left and right. After that, you should definitely blink.
It is important to remember that it is forbidden to apply eye charging according to Zhdanov to patients who have recently undergone eye surgery or have retinal detachment.
Now we will consider what specific exercises the professor advises to perform for each of the diseases.
Myopia
If the patient suffers from myopia, there are special exercises for the eyes to improve vision according to Zhdanov. First of all, they are aimed at focusing vision. At first on a distant subject, and then on an approximate one.
Zhdanov recommends compiling several special tables with texts. The words can be absolutely any, the most important thing is that each line that is lower than the previous one is printed in a smaller font. For example, you can make a table as close as possible to a table for checking visual acuity, which all ophthalmologists use in their offices. As an example, you can take it as a basis.
Print the very first table on a large sheet and hang it on the wall. For the second table, an A4 sheet is suitable, no more. Gymnastics for Zhdanov's eyes with myopia is performed according to the following algorithm:
- Stand at such a distance from the first table that you can clearly see only its top row.
- Close one eye with the palm of your hand, performing the exercise only with the second eye.
- Take in your hand the second table, a reduced format.
- Focus your eyes on the top line of the table, which is hanging on the wall. Then translate it to the same line on the small table. Repeat this process three times.
- Repeat the exercise, focusing your eyes now on the second line of the table hanging on the wall and the one you are holding in your hand.
- Repeat the entire exercise separately for the second eye.
According to the Zhdanov method for the eyes, this gymnastics should be performed until all the lines from the table have been read. The main thing, remember when doing that your head should remain motionless, use only your eyes.
There is another charging option for the eyes according to Zhdanov. It includes exercises aimed primarily at the muscles of the eyes. It should be performed according to the following algorithm:
- Start by blinking lightly and quickly without squinting at the same time. So you effectively relax the muscles to start doing exercises for the eyes to restore vision according to Zhdanov.
- Start moving eyes up and down, quickly blink after three seconds.
- Move your eyes left and right for another three seconds.
- Perform diagonal left-down and left-up movements five times, then blink again.
- Rectangle exercise. With a look, draw a mental rectangle, starting from its right side.
- Exercise "Clock". Imagine a dial, the base of the hands of which will be located at your nose. Make characteristic eye movements in a clockwise direction. After going the whole circle, blink, and then repeat the exercise in the opposite direction.
- Exercise "Snake". Imagine a snake, begin to mentally follow it in any direction with one eye. Blink at the end.
It is important that when performing a set of exercises for Zhdanov’s eyes, you should not be abused, trying to achieve an early result. Repeat each exercise no more than three times a day, otherwise you can do even more harm to your eyes.
Farsightedness
This set of exercises of Zhdanov’s technique for the eyes is aimed at strengthening oblique eye muscles due to their constant tension and relaxation.
For the first exercise, take a pencil or pen on your outstretched arm. Blink a little and look at any distant subject. After that, look at the pen without taking it away, bring the subject closer to the eyes to a distance of 10-15 centimeters. Then stretch your hand back, blink for a few seconds, look again into the distance. This exercise should be repeated seven times.
For the second exercise, you will also need a pencil or some alternative to it. Bring the pencil to your eyes, holding it in a strictly vertical position. At the same time, during all this exercise, your gaze should be focused in the distance. Tilt the pencil in different directions, and then take it to the left, about 15 centimeters. Continue to hold it at eye level, and after a few seconds return to its original position. After that, repeat the manipulation, drawing the pencil to the right side of you. The duration of this exercise should not exceed three minutes.
Together with a pencil or pen, if they were not at hand, you can use a regular index finger.
Astigmatism
The main problem that arises with astigmatism is the lack of focusing, as in this case the sphericity of the cornea or lens is broken. Astigmatism is considered among specialists as a very serious pathology, which can be acquired or congenital. For example, astigmatism may appear after eye injury.
If you do not conduct timely treatment of this disease, vision will begin to decline rapidly, there is a likelihood of strabismus. This technique can only be used by agreement with a doctor in combination with other methods of treating astigmatism.
It should be noted that although many ophthalmologists are skeptical of this gymnastics, positive reviews about its use are regularly received from patients.
The first complex consists of several exercises. Begin by moving in different directions with the eyeballs. Then rotate your eyes in a circle, draw a glance at an imaginary rectangle, and finally draw an imaginary figure eight and an infinity sign.
Palming
An obligatory component in the treatment of astigmatism is palming. It is recommended not only to cope with this serious illness, but also to relieve eye strain and fatigue. This is a universal means of release from tension, developed by the American ophthalmologist Bates. It is important to know how to do palming for the eyes.
You should start by rubbing your eyes thoroughly until a characteristic warmth appears. After that, put your hands to your eyes so that they completely cover them. Leave only your nose free for unhindered breathing. Fingers need to close together so that light does not leak through them at all. Sit in this position for several minutes. Your body and upper limbs should be as relaxed as possible.
For the correct execution of palming for the eyes according to Zhdanov at this moment, it is necessary to remember some joyful and pleasant event in life, to keep your eyes on this imaginary image as much as possible.
Of great importance is not only how you reach palming, but also how you get out of it. To do this, straighten your back as much as possible, squint your eyes slightly under your palms. After removing them from the face, slowly and gently shake your head in different directions, while still not opening your eyes. Then lightly rub them with your fist, only after that start to gradually open. Be sure to blink at the same time.
Palming is recommended to be done regularly not only for patients suffering from astigmatism, but also for office workers who have to spend a lot of time at the computer. In this case, this exercise should be performed for four minutes every hour.
Solarization
Solarization is another method against astigmatism that Zhdanov recommends. This exercise will help you relax your eye muscles and quickly and effectively restore your vision. It can be performed with any source of illumination except fluorescent lamps.
To begin, stand facing the light source located in the room. Put your feet shoulder width apart, close your eyes, and relax your body as much as possible. Turn the entire body to the right, slowly lifting the heel of the left leg. Repeat the same action the other way, turning the housing to the left. These turns should be done 20 times. It is necessary to stop the exercise earlier if the sunny "bunnies" begin to flicker under closed eyes.
After solarization, palming is recommended, while remaining in a standing position. This discharge will help you get rid of the "bunnies" before your eyes if they do occur, as well as maximize the relaxation of the eye muscles, which is very important to achieve a result. To do this, rub your palms against each other until they become warm. Only then apply them to your closed eyes. In this case, the elbows should be pressed to the chest, and the head is slightly down.
Custom Techniques
Zhdanov developed some of the exercises on his own, without relying on Bates hypotheses. For example, he advises spraying cold boiled water into your eyes. Moreover, ideally, it should be thawed. It should be boiled, and then frozen in the refrigerator. Thawed water is useful to wash and spray yourself directly in your open eyes twice a day - morning and evening.
Water retains a useful polymer structure while ice crystals remain in it. Previously, it should be boiled to remove bleach, which can harm the eyes.
It is useful to build funny faces. Relax and tighten your face muscles, move your ears, jaws, eyes. It’s better to make funny faces right in front of the mirror. The better your facial muscles are developed, the more efficient the blood supply to the eyes will begin to work. The oculomotor muscles, which are important for maintaining acute vision, will also significantly improve.
Note that newborns are constantly grimacing. They do this instinctively so that facial muscles develop from the first day of life.
Specialist ratings
Doctors today evaluate the effectiveness of Zhdanov’s methods differently. The overwhelming majority considers him a charlatan, and calls the gymnastics, which he promotes, completely useless. There are international studies that have proved the fallacy of the hypotheses and assumptions that Bates put forward. Later, his Russian follower built his technique on them.
Some ophthalmologists treat these exercises more favorably. Without categorically denying them, they argue that additional research and experiments are required that will confirm or refute their effectiveness. Zhdanov himself adheres to the same point of view.
At the same time, patients often have to meet gratitude. People claim that after scrupulous and thorough performance of these exercises, they were able to improve their vision, some patients with glaucoma even noted a decrease in intraocular pressure, which already speaks of significant results.
By regularly performing these exercises, as well as eating balanced and completely giving up alcohol, a person can significantly improve his vision in a few months. At least Zhdanov himself is sure of this.
