Other books by A. V. Dolin
Among other books of film critic can be distinguished "Trick XXI. Essays on the cinema of the new century", published in 2010. The author in it tries to answer the question, in what position was cinema in the twenty-first century. Despite the prophecies about the imminent death of this art form, people continue to visit theaters, no economic crises prevent them from buying tickets for new films.
The author discusses these topics with the help of examples from the creative activity of famous directors and actors of the “zero” generation. He talks about the cinema patriarch Manuel de Oliveiro, who has crossed the centenary, and about the Romanian and Malaysian avant-garde artists, and about Italian political cinema, and about the followers of Russian metaphysical traditions.
In the book "Takeshi Kitano. Childhood", published in 2006, Anton Dolin tries to understand how this most popular Japanese film director, a follower of A. Kurosawa, who shot more than fifteen films, manages to remain a child in his soul. T. Kitano calls himself nothing more than "a cancerous tumor that hit the body of Japanese culture."
Another masterpiece
In the world of cinematography, the work "Herman: Interview. Essay. Screenplay" was praised. The film guild again awarded the Valley Prize for it in 2011.
The author of the book talks about the phenomenon of Alexei German by the example of his famous films, calling him a significant, but little studied phenomenon in world cinema. The book says not only about the filmmaker himself. A lot of interesting things can be gleaned about his relationship with Konstantin Simonov, Rolan Bykov, Andrey Mironov, Georgy Tovstonogov, Eugene Schwartz.
The author of the story spent many hours in conversations with the famous director to find out the mechanism of the emergence of a new cinema language. He found out who the parents of Alexei German were, how he spent his childhood in the difficult war years, what trace he left behind in Soviet cinema.
Concrete facts from the life of the protagonist and the stories generated by him, myths and real stories are given. All this resulted in a series of interesting stories in which the director’s memory, time and work are projected into art.
