Airport History
Gomel Airport dates back to the forties of the last century. Initially, it provided only nearby domestic routes, in addition to them, the runway was suitable only for agricultural aviation. An airborne sanitary unit was based near the airport; it was very in demand during the war.
By the beginning of the seventies of the last century, Gomel Airport received a new runway and began to carry out passenger transportation throughout the USSR. Flights were made to the south and north.
In the early nineties, Gomel Airport received the long-awaited international status and began to conclude contracts for servicing large European charter companies. Now the airport continues to work with charter carriers, in the summer season the number of flights increases due to domestic regular routes.

The second has a more recent date of construction (1985) and has one terminal, a hotel and a cozy dining room.
Some time ago, Gomel Airport, whose flights were limited to mid-level charter companies, was the base of the bankrupt airline Gomelavia. The runway cannot accept all aircraft; it is limited by a carrying capacity of one hundred and seventy-one tons. Therefore, some airlines cannot establish cooperation with this airport until the construction of a new runway.
