The concepts of “Internet” and “Email” are so closely intertwined that in the minds of many they are almost the same thing. For example, sometimes in a conversation between two users you can hear "Throw me a letter via the Internet."
Of course, these are completely different things, but of course there is a certain connection between them. The ability to receive and send emails makes life much easier, therefore this type of communication is incredibly popular today. For this reason, the amount of correspondence transported by conventional postal services has declined sharply in recent years.
Any computer owner knows that each task has its own software tool. For example, to work with documents in the system must be installed Microsoft Office suite or some equivalent; CD burning is the prerogative of Nero; listening to musical compositions is Winamp's business, etc. We have indicated only popular options, of course, there are other software solutions. Using email also requires its own program. One of them is The Bat. Setting it up is incredibly simple and accessible even to a novice. This is what will be discussed in our article.
You can download the test version (for 30 days) on the Internet.
After installation and launch, the The Bat configuration is necessary, since it is not known on which resource the user has a mailbox. This is a very small “fee” for the choice. For example, setting The Bat for Gmail involves entering some data into the program, Mail.ru - other, etc. All the necessary parameters can be easily found on mail sites. Setting up The Bat will require knowledge of the names IMAP, SMTP, and POP3. This information is publicly available or available upon request.
In the "header" of the program, go to the "Box" section and create a new one. Setting The Bat involves specifying a username (any one is possible - it will be displayed in the “From ...” column). A valid email address is also needed - the one with the “dog”. Please note that the registration of the box is done before the setting of The Bat starts.
Next, indicate the supported protocol mode. This is usually IMAP.
In the columns below we prescribe the addresses - the same ones that are given on the mail site.
The need for a checkmark for authentication is determined by the selected site: sometimes it is needed, sometimes it is not.
After clicking “Next” you need to enter your data for the mailbox: the full name of the view and the access password.
On this, the basic settings are made. Next, in the "Box" menu, go to the "Properties" section and go to the "Transport" item. Here we select the necessary type of connection for sending and receiving. For problems with STARTTLS, you can specify TLS. Ports are arbitrary, for example, 465 and 110. The Authentication button in the Sending window allows you to specify specific parameters. Usually enough standard POP3 and IMAP are enough. But in the "Receiving" window, you need to specify the full name (with the dog) and password.
So simple. Once again, we point out that each mail site requires entering the appropriate settings into the program. Universality, alas, is not yet. Also note that some anti-virus solutions (for example, Avira) conflict with The Bat, so you have to disable the mail scan module in them or change the port address in the program.
