Theater History
The Volkov Theater, the history of which dates back to the 18th century, began its career as a small group of amateur actors. The organizer, decorator, artist, director and so on was the son of a wealthy merchant F. Volkov.
After Fyodor Grigorievich left with his troupe in St. Petersburg at the invitation of the Empress, the business he began continued to develop.
In the 19th century, the Theater. Volkova (then called differently) was considered one of the best provincial art temples. Many great artists began their career here: L. Sobinov, L. Kositskaya, P. Strepetova, I. Moskvin and others. More than once M. Shchepkin and K. Stanislavsky came on tour to Yaroslavl.
The first theatrical season of the 20th century coincided with the anniversary of the theater. The celebrations dedicated to this event received an all-Russian scale. The best artists of Moscow and St. Petersburg were invited to the anniversary.
In 1911, the Yaroslavl drama received a new building. At the same time, the theater was named after the founder, professional actor of Russia F. Volkov.

Building
The Volkov Theater, the photo of the building of which is presented in this article, has replaced more than one room in more than two centuries of its existence.
Today he works on the stage, which was built for him in 1911. The author of the project was the architect Nikolai Spirin.
From 2012 to 2015, the building underwent a major overhaul. At the same time, performances continued to go on during this period.
In 2012, facade work was carried out. The stucco layer on the walls has been completely updated. Sculptural compositions were brought to their original appearance. The backlight was installed on the theater building.
In the same year, the old roof was completely replaced with a new roof and foundation waterproofing.

The Volkov Theater (Yaroslavl) bears the name of an outstanding artist, who lived in the distant 18th century. Fedor Grigoryevich was a universal man. He combined a large number of talents.
