Grigory Mikhailovich was born in 1955 in the city of Leningrad. First, he graduated from the shipbuilding institute. He worked as an engineer for several years. And in 1983 he entered the Leningrad Institute of Music and Cinematography at the Department of Puppet Theater Artists. He presented his first directorial work to the public in 1990.
