Crucian carp is one of the most popular and widespread species of fish of the cyprinid family in Russia, and probably around the world. Some experienced fishermen consider him, so to speak, “weedy” fish, unworthy of the close attention of an avid angler. But for a beginner, a good copy can be a real trophy. After all, the largest crucians sometimes reach three kilograms of weight or more. So there is, as they say, something to work on for a neophyte in fishing. And besides, the largest crucians in some reservoirs are not so rare, and they can really be caught.
Description
It has a dense body, high enough at the top point. The back is thick, wide, and the dorsal fin is long. The scales are smooth and large, quite well cleaned off. There is a silver and gold variety, however, according to scientists, the color largely depends on the habitat of the crucian carp. The length of silver rarely exceeds 40 centimeters. Weight - up to 2 kilograms. Gold - a little more than that: an average of 50 cm, up to 3 kg. But sometimes there are larger trophies - the largest crucian carp. And in many ponds you can observe both varieties of this fish at once. It is characteristic that crucian carp is often found in marshy and low-lying water bodies, but in mountainous waters it is much less common.
The largest crucian in the world
According to some sources, he was caught by M. Locky in Kent (UK) in the fall. Fishing took place on a fishing rod. Martin, having abandoned her, went to rest in a tent. And some time later I heard a bell ring announcing a bite. Running out of hiding, Locke set about pulling up the gear. The extraction on the other side of the forest was too heavy, and the fisherman had to make every effort. At first, he even thought it was just a catch. But as he moved from side to side, Martin realized that a real trophy had been hooked. The result of the “match”: crucian carp was pulled ashore, the dimensions of which were simply amazing, and the weight was 42.6 kilograms! After measurements and weighing, the fish was released back into the aquatic environment.

Unfortunately, the picture of the trophy was not taken or was lost. Therefore, it is not possible to say exactly whether it was all really. But to say that this is complete nonsense is also not worth it. Better to let history remain among the traditional fishermen.
But officially documented the largest crucian carp in Russia are available. I. Ivanov caught one of them in Lake Osyno. The weight of the fish was 5.5 kilograms. As a rule, it is much harder to catch such huge individuals for this species than those that are smaller, as they are very careful and prefer to lead a secretive lifestyle. And their favorite "places of rest" are the quietest and deepest backwaters of water bodies.

Fishing for this fish is gaining more and more popularity with this tackle. The feeder is a modern bottom fishing rod. It is equipped with a feeding trough where the bait is located. For a fish such as crucian carp, a feeder rod is chosen of the light class (but also the middle one). Length - no more than 2.5 meters. The weight of the feeder itself is, of course, less than that of a carp, for example. But one should also take into account the strength of the current at the proposed fishing location, so that the current or wind does not carry the feeder.
