Talagi Airport. History of formation, characteristic

Talagi Airport is a large airport with international status and located in the north of Russia near Arkhangelsk. It was founded back in the 60s of the XX century.

Historical reference

Talagi Airport was named after the locality of the same name in the Arkhangelsk region, next to which it is located. The history of its foundation is directly related to the formation of northern aviation.

The airport was built in the winter of 1963 by military builders who built an artificial concrete runway here. The first aircraft accepted was the domestic Il-18 aircraft, which landed here on 5 February. The plane carried out a technical flight from Moscow to Arkhangelsk. This date is considered the birthday of the airport. From February 25, airplanes begin to fly daily from Talagi to Leningrad and Moscow. In November 1964, the airport complex began to operate. Since 1966, service began on the An-24 aircraft. By 1974, the fleet was replenished with Yak-40, Tu-134 and Mi-6 and Mi-8 helicopters.

In 1973, the Civil Aviation Authority was established at the airport. The route geography included more than 60 settlements of the USSR and allied states. In 1978, the passenger flow amounted to more than 1.5 million people. In 1991, the Arkhangelsk air squad operated almost all types of aircraft and helicopters, with the exception of IL-86 and IL-62. In 1991, Talagi Airport became an independent organization.

Since 1998, the air link number 89 of the air defense corps number 21 is based here. It includes the Mi-8, MTV-1 and An-26 aircraft.

In 2009, Talagi was granted access to servicing modern A-320 and A-319 airbuses .

The development of the airport at the present stage

At the end of August 2011, scheduled work began on the reconstruction of the airport complex. Two pedestrian galleries and two telescopic traps were put into operation already in 2015. Thanks to this, passengers were embarked on board without their access to the apron. Baggage claim will now be made on the ground floor of the terminal. Other airports in Russia, located in the North, do not have teletraps, unlike Talagi. Reconstruction funds were allocated by the airport management. In the fall of 2015, the construction of a new terminal complex began, the area of โ€‹โ€‹which will be more than 2000 m2. After the construction of the terminal, the reconstruction of the airfield complex will be carried out. The drainage system will be improved. Similar work has not been carried out here for more than half a century.

Traveler Reviews

Passengers departing from Talagi note that the reconstruction has benefited the airport - the infrastructure has improved, free parking has appeared, Wi-Fi, souvenir shops have opened. However, there are points worth working on:

  • passenger service speed;
  • non-compliance of the bus departure time with the current schedule;
  • old chairs in the waiting room;
  • purity;
  • extraneous odors in the terminal building;
  • lack of smoking rooms.

Talagi Airport is one of the few transport hubs in the European North of Russia. Passengers note that the structure of the airport complex is imperfect. But the reason for this is the fact that work on the modernization of the terminal and the airfield began to be carried out only in 2011.
