"Blue screen of death"! What to do?

The concept of "Blue Screen of Death" (BSoD) translates as "blue screen of death." This is the common colloquial name for critical failure messages in operating systems running under MS Windows. Their appearance is due to the occurrence of fatal errors that occur when executing the code of any drivers or processor core. As a result, the only possible action for the user is to send the computer to reboot without the ability to save the current data.

As a rule, the system default settings are set in such a way that in the event of a critical failure, the computer reboots automatically. After that, the operating system creates an entry in the log in which a description of the error is given.

Information that you can use when you see the "blue screen of death" - errors and their codes, technical specifications, as well as some tips for resolving these failures. Usually the message and recommendations have a standard form, but the technical information changes in accordance with the type of error that occurs and consists of:

- the code of the failure that occurred and its symbolic name;
- parameters explaining the error, intended for debugging software;
- addresses of the place of failure;
- The name of the driver in which the malfunction occurred.

Blue screen of death
What if the "blue screen of death" still appeared? As we said above, the system settings require an automatic reboot in the event of a BSoD. However, she will do this until the error is completely eliminated. But we recommend disabling this option so that the user can record the fault code and find out the reason that caused it. To do this, open the "Control Panel", go to the "System", in which on the left side there will be a link "Advanced system settings." In the opened properties, on the "Advanced" tab, click the "Options" button of the "Download and Restore" block, then in the "System Failure" block uncheck the "Perform automatic reboot" box. Save your changes.

If this operation does not work, restart the computer again, press F8 again and enter safe mode. If the boot is successful, try to restore the system. If this failed, find your error code in a special table that contains a list of malfunctions that cause the "blue screen of death", and try to find out its cause. After resolving it, try restoring the system again using safe mode.
Login in safe mode
If the problem that causes BSoD is of a software rather than a hardware nature, to fix it it will be enough to restore the system, or even better, reinstall it, and this error will not appear again.

In order to make sure that the hardware of your computer is in order, you need to test its hardware. You can check the hard drive using the MHDD utility, which starts from a 3.5 "floppy disk under MS-DOS, and to check the status of RAM, you can use memtest86 +, which also starts from a floppy disk.

By the way, the "blue screen of death" Windows 7 will soon cease to be relevant - this is the latest OS, where it will be present in its purest form. However, do not flatter yourself, because this does not mean that Microsoft will write the perfect OS. The fact is that BSoD will simply be replaced by KSoD ("blacK Screen of Death"), and henceforth you will have to deal with the "black screen of death", that's all.

Finally, we note that reinstalling the OS is only a short-term solution to the BSoD problem, and if the cause of its occurrence has not yet been clarified, there is a high probability that it will appear again in the near future.
