The Musical Theater of Rostov-on-Don is one of the oldest in the south of Russia. Today, his repertoire includes productions of various genres. These are opera, ballet, operetta, musical, rock opera and musical tales for children.
History
The Musical Theater of Rostov-on-Don was created in 1919. He received the state status after 12 years. Then it was called the theater of musical comedy. The repertoire included only operettas. The Rostov Theater was one of the best in the Union. He immediately gained popularity. He did not stop his creative growth even during the difficult war years. The theater passed this test with flying colors. The artists continued to delight the viewer, inspiring hope for the Victory and giving strength to survive.
In the postwar years, a large number of new productions appeared in the repertoire of the theater. Among them - the performances "The Cornwall Bells", "The Sea Spreads Wide", "Gypsy Baron" and "Tobacco Captain".
At the end of the 20th century, the repertoire included productions of new popular genres in the musical theater - rock opera and musical. Among them are Juno and Avos, Cabaret, Sharman-Kankan, My Fair Lady, Sister Kerry, Abduction, Killing Order and others. The performances immediately became popular with the audience. The troupe in those years was replenished with young talented artists.
In 1999, the musical theater (Rostov-on-Don) received its new building, which is now located. His address: Bolshaya Sadovaya street, 134/38. The theater building is one of the best in our country for technical equipment. In addition to performances and concerts, there are celebrations, festivals, forums and so on. The area of the building is 37 thousand square meters. Its stage set in terms of technical equipment and size is second only to the Bolshoi Theater. A new building was under construction for the Rostov theater for a very long time, not one dozen years. The authors of the project were architects V. Hafizov, G. Dukov and L. Lobak.
In the process of its creative path, the theater acquired a new status. Now in his repertoire - not only operettas. This includes ballets, musicals, symphony concerts, performances for children, operas, rock operas and musical short stories. The expansion of the repertoire required an increase in the troupe. Today there are more than 60 ballet dancers and over sixty vocalists, as well as more than 70 choristers and more than a hundred musicians.
The theater is actively touring around the world. The troupe took its performances to Italy, Poland, the UK, Germany, Ireland, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, Portugal, Qatar and other countries.
