Landline phone and GSM-connection

Chinese wisdom says that there is nothing worse than living in an era of turmoil and change. Well, apparently, all of us are now very lucky to live in just such a time: the collapse of the Soviet Union and the shocks that accompany it, a change in lifestyle, and climate change.

Obviously, one can safely forget about a calm measured life, when it is possible with high probability to foresee the future for several decades to come. On the one hand, this is really not very good. But if you look at what is happening from a slightly different angle ... A quick change makes life more interesting, eventful. What seemed fiction just yesterday is becoming a reality today.

For example, a couple of decades ago, it seemed that a landline telephone was one of the most advanced means of communication. But with the advent of wireless solutions, his position was seriously shaken. When the industry started the production of low-cost mobile devices, and GSM operators reduced the cost of tariffs, a landline telephone began to seem archaism. However, several solutions were proposed that reversed the idea of these types of communications. They were stationary GSM-phones.

Apparent contradiction

It may seem that there is some kind of mistake, the expression “GSM landline phone” simply cannot exist. However, with the current level of progress, this is quite real. The two technologies were successfully combined in a single device, which is quite unusual. Since everyone knows what a landline telephone is, and rarely heard of unusual symbiosis, we decided to cover this issue.

Radio wave and wire

Rarely does anyone have a mobile phone now. Even more: for many models work simultaneously with several SIM cards of various mobile operators. The convenience of wireless solutions is obvious - you can call from any place where there is coverage of base stations. However, a landline telephone is still in use in some cases. For example, in order to save money on the cost of a call. Imagine that you need to call from a wired phone to a mobile number. It is expensive. However, if instead of a conventional device, a hybrid model is installed at home (the so-called GSM gateway), then all problems will be solved.

The usual call scheme is as follows: landline telephone - telecommunication company of wire communication services - mobile operator - "mobile phone".

If it were possible to remove the second link from the chain, then the tariffing would be completely different.

This is exactly what GSM gateways do. Inside such a landline phone is a standard cellular module and a SIM card. Depending on the number to be dialed, a particular call method is selected.

If you need to call from a mobile to a city number, the owner of such a system in a special way dials the subscriber number. As a result, the connection is first made to the wireless unit of the gateway located at home, which dials the required city number. Thus, the scheme takes the form: cellular call initiator - wireless gateway unit - wired module - classic wired call. Since the SIM cards of the gateway and the “mobile phone” of the owner, as a rule, belong to the same network, the cost of the call is a penny.
