A search is a procedural action carried out by employees of internal affairs bodies, investigative bodies on the territory of organizations and apartments of persons suspected of committing a crime. A search cannot be spontaneous or non-systemic, therefore, in the process of performing an action, a search protocol is always kept.
First part of the protocol
The protocol, if you carefully analyze it, can be divided into several parts. The first of them, by analogy with the structure of business letters, can be called a "cap". Be sure to indicate the name of the settlement in which the procedure is performed in the upper left corner. The search protocol must contain a column such as the date. After the city and date, the start and end time of the search must be affixed. Such detailing is required. Why? A person or employees of the organization where the search was conducted can theoretically claim that, for example, they were not at home that day. The presence of such a clear specification of the time period for the procedure will limit as much as possible all possible variations for disputes.
The name and surname of the staff who search, as well as information about witnesses who were present and observed the process, must also be indicated.

After entering the input information, the employees display in this document the process of searching for the necessary evidence in the premises. In the text, it is advisable to clearly indicate in time that a search in a particular room was carried out, for example, from 15:10 to 15:17, in the next room - from 15:20 to 15:30. That is, the entire process of carrying out investigative actions must be clearly traced in the protocol . After a detailed time description, a table is given indicating a detailed list of the seized evidence. The structure of the table is as follows:
- serial number;
- name of the item;
- the number of instances found;
- the location of things at the time when they were found by operatives (for example, in the far lower corner of the room near the wall).
After this information, the search report, the form of which is given in this article, should include information on the seizure of material evidence.
At the end of the protocol, employees must sign. The witnesses and the owner of the room in which this procedure, which was unpleasant for everyone, was also signing the search protocol.
What is a personal search protocol?
In order to investigate crimes from time to time there is a need to conduct a personal search of the person. It is slightly different from finding things in the apartment. The protocol structure is the same, but there are some differences. The fact is that a search of a person has the right to conduct only individual employees with special knowledge. The document must indicate the information about the person who conducted the search (name, position). In addition, all information about special technical means that will be involved in each specific case (for example, a metal detector) is fully displayed.
