Unfortunately, now theaters for children are less popular than before. Guys are increasingly attracted to televisions and computers. However, there are cultural institutions that not only preserve theatrical traditions and update their repertoire, but also attract children through their participation in various competitions and projects. These can be safely attributed to the Altai State Puppet Theater "Fairy Tale".
History of creation
The foundation of the theater was laid by a concert team of puppeteers, created in 1938. She obeyed the Regional Concert and Pop Bureau. At the beginning of the war, most of the men from the theater group were called up to the front. However, the team continued its touring activities, presenting puppet shows — concerts of an anti-fascist nature. It existed until 1949. In November 1963, the Altai Regional Executive Committee adopted a resolution on the creation of the Altai Regional Puppet Theater.
The premiere performance "Snegurkina School" based on the Landau play, viewers saw in January 1964. From the beginning of the theater's existence, dolls and decorations were made in the workshops of Kemerovo, Novokuznetsk, Novosibirsk. Soon, his first director opened his own theater workshop. In 1970, the theater was housed in a clubhouse with a good hall in Barnaul on Pushkin Street, 41. In 1972, the Altai State Puppet Theater "Fairy Tale" took part in a puppet show in Moscow, and in 1982 was a participant in the X International Puppet Theater Festival in Poland. In 2014, the theater left the emergency building on Pushkin Street. At the moment, during the construction of a new theater on the site of the old one, the Tale is located in the former Rodina Cinema.

The main audience of the theater are preschoolers, primary school students and adolescents. But sometimes "Tale" puts on performances for adult viewers. The troupe takes both Russian and foreign fairy tales as the basis of its productions. Fans of puppet theater art can see performed by the artists of the theater “The Frog Princess”, “Little Red Riding Hood”, “Little Mermaid”, “Amazing Concert”, “Toddler and Carlson”, “Star Boy” and many others. The current repertoire includes such performances:
- for babies from two years old - “Seasons”, “Gosling”, “Incredible moon adventures”, “Silver hoof”, “Three little pigs”;
- for young viewers from three years old - “The Wolf and the Seven Little Kids”, “Little Red Riding Hood”, “Frost”, “Teremok”;
- for children from five years old - “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves”, “The Wizard of the Emerald City”, “The Magic Ring”;
- for children from six years old - “The Frog-traveler”, “About Winnie the Pooh”, “Sister Alyonushka and brother Ivanushka”; "Sleeping Beauty";
- for children from eight years old - “Alice in Wonderland”; "Eugene Onegin" and much more.
"The Wizard of Oz"
One of the most striking works of the puppet theater for children can rightfully be considered the fairy tale "The Wizard of the Emerald City." Different puppets are used in the play - tablet, growth, cane. Artists also take a direct part in the production. This helps to make the tale as meaningful and expressive as possible. In addition, according to the authors, it is easier to convey to the viewer the most important idea of the production of all-conquering love. The performance is accompanied by original author's music. It contains creative visual effects. The production was created on the basis of a clamshell book. Thanks to modern technology, revitalizing its heroes, viewers are immersed in the atmosphere of fabulous adventures. This work is interesting and understandable to both children and adults.
Theater Projects
The Altai State Puppet Theater "Fairy Tale" in Barnaul, in addition to its main activity, attracts young citizens also with unusual projects.
- In the children's creative studio "School of Young Puppeteers", children 5-7 years old have the opportunity to get acquainted with the world of the theater from the inside. Professional educators and artists teach them stage speech and movement, acting and applied art, teach them how to make sets and simple dolls. Twice a year, at reporting performances, the guys have the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to transform into fairy-tale characters, telling fascinating stories. The school has been operating since October 2017.
- Since 2017, on an additional stage, performances can be watched by the smallest spectators. A Pillow Theater was created for them. Performances are held in a cozy room, where instead of a stage there is a carpet and soft pillows. Young fidgets not only watch a fairy tale, but they themselves can take part in it.
- The quest "Enchanted Theater" allows children to get into the dark and mysterious backstage of the theater for an hour.
New building
The new premises of the Altai State Puppet Theater "Fairy Tale" is planned to be built on the site of the old one. At the same time, designers are trying to preserve the forms inherent in the architecture of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. A creative interpretation of the facade will add to the building the fabulous effect that is so necessary for the puppet theater. At the main entrance, the authors of the project see a tall tower with a spiral staircase inside. A colored stained glass window will go along the entire height of the main staircase, and architects provide niches with sculptures of fairy tale heroes along the facades. The theater will have two halls:
- small, designed for 100 seats, on the ground floor;
- large, with a capacity of 250 people, on the second floor.
The spacious main lobby on the second floor is perfect for holding festive children's events.

- The organization of productions is well thought out. The play for kids lasts no more than forty minutes.
- Adults and children rated the organization of New Year's shows very highly. An elegant Christmas tree was installed in the lobby. So that the children would not get bored until they were invited to the hall, they could draw with pencils at tables, or crayons on a special board.
- The theater holds various competitions, for example, for the best crafts before the New Year. All participants received certificates, and the winners received tickets for two.
