Typically, the appearance of messages that the system cannot find the specified path is associated with downloads that are performed using torrent clients after launching the corresponding downloaded file from the tracker. However, this error can also occur in other situations, which can only be indirectly related to the consideration of the main issue or not at all. Next, we will consider several typical situations in which such a failure may appear, as well as the most acceptable methods for their correction, which, although they differ from each other, nevertheless allow to eliminate the failures in each of the described situations.
The system cannot find the specified path: typical situations and causes of errors
Despite the fact that in most cases it is torrent clients that give such an error, the problem may have a slightly more extended interpretation.
Among all that is usually distinguished in terms of the appearance of such failures, several situations can be noted:
- the inability to download files (and not only with the help of torrent programs);
- denial of access to the object when trying to edit;
- lack of access after deleting folders and files;
- lack of administrator rights to access services;
- crashes while loading the operating system.
Separately, it can be noted that such errors can also occur during virus exposure, when some access rights to files and directories or the paths to their true location on the hard disk change spontaneously when malicious codes are triggered. But concern for the security of your computer for each user should be a personal priority, so such issues will be considered only briefly.
Rejection reason
When access is denied (the system cannot find the specified path), the possible troubleshooting for downloading torrents in this situation is as follows.
So, let's start with the most common example. When there are problems with downloading (it is not possible to find the specified path), this is nothing more than a change in the location to save the downloaded content. How to explain this? Elementary!
Suppose that the user downloaded the torrent file, but all the content had to be downloaded not to the hard drive or logical partition, but to a removable device like a regular USB flash drive or USB-HDD. He set the download path, but at the end of the download he did not change it. The next time you start the download, an error message appears about the previous volume or that the system cannot find the specified path.
In this situation, you just need to go into the general settings of the torrent program, go to the folder settings menu and select the new directory through the search in which the downloaded content will be saved.
Sometimes, many experts recommend not specifying the same directory by default to save torrent files in their original form, and for downloaded content.
Quite often you can observe problems that the system cannot find the specified path at boot even if the client itself is not launched as an administrator (here you canβt even change the settings). Exit the program and use the appropriate type of application start. It is better to log in as an administrator if there are several registered entries in the system.
What to do if there is no access to services?
Now suppose that the error "The system could not find the specified path" is not related to torrents. Quite often this concerns the lack of access to some services.
First, go to the appropriate section (services.msc) and find the service with which there are problems (in the properties, when you go to them through the PCM menu, its name will be marked in red).
After that, call the registry editor (regedit), through the HKLM branch, go to the service settings directory, as shown in the image above, and set permissions through RMB (it will redirect to a section in which all full access points should be specified).
Fix crashes when accessing files and folders
The same applies to files and folders, only in this case the file properties menu is used (the current user must be included in the administrator group or changed owner).
But it also happens when an error occurs, as they say, out of the blue. For example, you delete a folder from the "Explorer", the system requires administrator rights, you confirm the deletion, but in return you get a message about the impossibility of such actions (although in fact some of the files have been deleted). In this case, the problem that the system cannot find the specified path is solved by a regular reboot and by deleting the remaining objects again.
Failure to start the operating system
As for loading the OS when such a crash occurs, it only means that the start files are missing or damaged.
Boot from removable media and roll back the system to an earlier state. If this does not help, check the system files through the command line (sfc / scannow) with a full restart after execution.
Brief summary
That is all that can be said about fixing errors of this kind. Less common situations include the task for torrent clients of too long paths to the destination save folders. In this case, it is better to use directories closer to the root of the system drive (for example, C: \ Downloads). In the case of problems accessing files or the inability to start the operating system, you can use the following solutions. These are the simplest methods. If the problem is deeper, you will have to perform a virus scan and try to restore the boot sectors, etc.
