The birth of a great artist

First steps
The Russian actor began his creative flight at the Drama Theater of Simferopol in 1920. Then he spends one year (from 1922 to 1923) in the drama studio of M. Minay. But they were not in vain, and brought the long-awaited results.
New stage
From 1928 = go to 1936 (some sources claim that by 1939) Dmitry Nikolaevich Zhuravlev finds for himself a new territory for the development of creative potential. It was at this time that he played his significant roles, which have a significant impact on him: Dudin, Slesarev, Miller, Jouvet. This period, the actor considered one of the best in his creative life. A rich theatrical experience and new acquaintances with interesting people - that was what was most important for the artist at that time. The Vakhtangov Theater laid the foundation for widespread fame.
Discovery of a new talent
In 1928, Dmitry Zhuravlev discovered another amazing talent. He begins to read poetry. Not just reading, but inspiring and overwhelming listeners with their reading. The audience was delighted. Several prominent speeches quickly revealed the speaker’s living talent in him.
It all began with rare readings of the works of A. S. Pushkin, A. A. Blok, V. V. Mayakovsky and the stories of M. M. Zoshchenko and I. E. Babel. At first, it was more of a hobby than a conscious activity. Over time, the artist became more and more interested in this, but continued to consider it only literary pampering. But a keen interest in the recitation of verses and the presence of a natural gift did their job. Dmitry Nikolaevich is zealously interested in the work of the reader A. Ya. Zakushnyak. It is this, in the opinion of the artist himself, that has most of all changed his attitude to poems.
Already at the beginning of the reader’s career, he is fond of poetry by A. Akhmatova and B. Pasternak. Do not think that he was limited only to the Russian literary circle. Zhuravlev actively studies foreign works, and soon he has his favorite samples, which he happily recites to a stunned audience. His interests included the works of P. Merimee and G. Maupassant. He proudly read the poems of his contemporaries: E. Bagritsky, V. Tikhonov, A. Twardovsky, E. Evtushenko and A. Voznesensky.
1930 was a special year for Dmitry Nikolayevich, as he speaks with his program: The Bronze Horseman by A. S. Pushkin, “With all his voice” by V.V. Mayakovsky, “Matrynischa” by M. M. Zoshchenko, “The Salt” and E. Babel and “Bobok” by F. M. Dostoevsky in the House of Writers. A successful 1931 gradually develops into a year no less happy for a creative career. It was in 1931 that the master of literary words gave his first personal concert in the Small Hall of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Theater “Egyptian Nights” and “Autumn”.
In 1937, he took second place in the First All-Union Competition of Reciters. Having finished this, he immediately shows himself as a wonderful movie actor and starred in the film "Journey to Arzrum." In the film, he plays the role of A. S. Pushkin. Judging by the reviews of critics and moviegoers, he did an excellent job.
Soon, a talented artist appears as a soloist of the Moscow Philharmonic. At this time A.P. Chekhov began to appear and prevail in his repertoire. He with genuine pleasure reads his novels and stories. Listeners feel this and are delighted with the reader's dedication to their work. In 1954 he created a new program, which is completely based on the work of A.P. Chekhov. Ten long years later, after the saturation with the works of this author, Dmitry Nikolaevich has a new passion - M. Yu. Lermontov. In the same year he creates the Lermontov program in two episodes.
They begin to treat him with ever-increasing respect. This person conquers the hearts of not only ordinary listeners, but also the "cream" of society. They begin to notice him, and soon he becomes a consultant to many programs. Tips of the artist listen carefully and try to accurately perform.
Finally, after ten long years, his talent as a reader was awarded the Stalin Prize. This was an important event in the life of Dmitry Nikolaevich. A certain level was achieved, the person realized that he was appreciated and noticed. After that, he begins to seek expression in other industries.
Teaching field
The Honored Artist of the USSR devoted 20 years of his career to teaching. From 1955 to 1975, he worked for the benefit of students at the School-Studio of the Moscow Art Theater named after Nemirovich-Danchenko. In 1971, he became a professor at the studio.
Voice acting cartoons

" There are practically no talents equal to D. N. Zhuravlev. In the last century, these were units - nuggets that achieved everything through labor and perseverance. In other words, they followed the same path as the artist. And in our time, the art of literary reading, unfortunately, has lost its relevance.
A talented man left this world in the hot month of July 1991. His grave can be found at the Troekurovsky cemetery in Moscow. On it you can always see fresh bouquets of flowers that are regularly brought by those who remember, appreciate and love.
In addition to his speeches, readings and soundings, Dmitry Nikolaevich left another treasure - his daughter N. D. Zhuravlev. She did not let her father down and proved that she was worthy to be called the daughter of such a talented person. Now Natalya Dmitrievna is a Honored Artist of the Russian Federation.
