March 1, 1987 in one of the Moscow cellars on Chaplygin Street (near the metro station "Chistye Prudy") the famous "Tabakerka" was opened - a theater led by the People's Artist of the USSR, winner of many different Russian, Soviet and foreign prizes and awards Oleg Tabakov.

Theater History
The building of the former coal warehouse on Chaplygin Street Oleg Tabakov received back in 1977. Then he, with the actors who helped him, students, cleared it and put it in order.
A group of young actors Tabakov appeared in 1974. Oleg Tabakov studied with them as real students of a theater university. Premiere in the "basement"
In 1978, the premiere performance by A. Kazantsev’s play “In the Spring I Will Return to You” took place in the “basement”. Thanks to the talented game of students and the leadership of Oleg Pavlovich Tabakov, the “basement” soon became known throughout the country, and earned the attention and recognition of the audience. The best journalists and critics of the time wrote about the theater.
Hard times came later. The program "Cultivating Acting Professionalism" proposed by Tabakov was recognized as extremely "non-innovative." The theater did not receive official recognition from the state, and the actors were forced to work in other places. But still they gathered in the “basement” at night, rehearsed plays and even staged performances.
Attempt number two
In 1986, after experiencing a period of "prohibition of the profession", the "basement" managed to get the official status of the theater. In 1987, the reconstruction of the building was completed and the Snuffbox opened. Tabakov Theater earned in full force.
Their first performance, Armchair, was already bold and provocative. The hero of the play is a talented young man, wasting his life, serving the district Komsomol. A fresh outlook on things, talent, high professionalism - this is always what “Snuff Box" was for.
The theater quickly began to tour and collect applause not only at home, but also abroad. Actors went on tour in Italy, Hungary, Japan, Germany, France, Israel. Every year the theater, despite the skepticism of critics, gained more and more love from the audience.
