Theater History

Musical Theater named after Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko is one of the leading in Russia. Many of his productions are included in the gold fund. The names of many soloists who once served here and are working now are known both in Russia and around the world. The theater was formed of two. One was led by K. S. Stanislavsky, the other - V. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko. Both of these outstanding stage reformers wanted to create something of their own, new, they were not happy with what the performances were then. They believed that the production should be lively and informative, and not reminiscent of a concert in costumes. These two great men have united. The musical theater was named after K. S. Stanislavsky and V. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko. He was always more vibrant and democratic than imperial ones. For this, the public always loved him very much. Outstanding directors worked here. Alexander Titel is the artistic director of the opera company. Since 1980, he served in the opera and ballet theater of the city of Yekaterinburg. There he was the main director. In the theater named after K. S. Stanislavsky and V. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko, he has served as the chief director and artistic director of the opera company since 1991. He owns such productions as The Betrothal at the Monastery by Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev, The Barber of Seville by Joakino Rossini, The Tales of Hoffmann by Jacques Offenbach, The Bat by Johann Strauss and others. A. Titel is also a professor at GITIS and teaches at the faculty of musical theater.
Igor Zelensky is the artistic director of the ballet troupe. He graduated from the choreographic school in Tbilisi. After that he served at the Mariinsky Theater, was the prime minister. Since 1990, he has performed leading roles in the ballets of the Berlin Deutsche Oper. Since 1992, Igor was the premier of the City Ballet troupe in New York.
