For more than 25 years (since the days of the USSR), a completely unusual theater has been operating in such a diverse theater. It differs from the rest in that the actors in it are children. In this "small state", which is called the Moscow Children's Variety Theater, young artists live with their teachers, while learning and working. Little actors, completely devoid of everyday experience, see the obvious absolutely directly and share what they saw with the audience using music and plastic. A bit of history
Children's story Theater on Bauman begins the countdown in 1984, when the musical group Detsky Mir was first presented to the Moscow public. The original group, which was created by aspiring composer V. Ovsyannikov, for the first time showed a professional, ultra-modern children’s stage with rich and dense vocals, modern style and vivid arrangement of songs. It looked very contrasted in comparison with the pioneer children's groups and the frankly simple melody of their songs of that time.
By the end of 1989, the collective was transformed into the Moscow Children's Variety Theater, which soon presented the first musical performance, Tip-Top. First steps". This is followed by many programs in different genres: performance, rock opera, musical, show, television musical and others. The theater is the creator of a number of projects (Lyceum, Cinema, 21 Century, etc.), it has recorded more than two dozen audio albums and shot several video clips. Since 1994, the theater has the status of a state.
Theater today
Currently in MDTE, which is located on Baumanskaya Street (near the metro station of the same name), in four departments (vocal, choreographic, theater and preparatory) more than four hundred children are trained. Thanks to the original teaching methodology and the professionalism of the teaching staff, students in a short time achieve excellent creative results.
Moscow Children's Variety Theater prepared a galaxy of artists of different genres. Thanks to him, viewers learned about Polina Gagarina, Svetlana Svetikova, Elena Perova, Olga Litvinova, Anna Levanova, Karina Mishulina and others.
From the moment of its foundation to the present, Valentin Ovsyannikov is the artist of this “state of children”.
MDTE activities
During its existence, on the account of the Children's Theater on Baumanskaya, in addition to the main performances, many events of various sizes:
- Work on several radio stations in Russia with a cycle of radio broadcasts.
- Participation in state cultural programs dedicated to the most significant anniversary events of the country: Victory in the Great Patriotic War, Youth Olympic Games, Moscow Day, etc.
- Work in alliance with well-known directors: V. Alexandrov, E. Glazov, A. Silin, I. Toporovsky, E. Vandalkovsky, E. Shebagutdinov.
- The young artists of the theater have performed joint concert programs with famous Russian stars: Kristina Orbakaite, Marina Khlebnikova, the Ivanushki International group, Irina Shvedova, Elena Kuzmina, Dmitry Kharatyan, Anita Tsoi, the Flowers group, etc.
- MDTE has already celebrated its 15th anniversary with a large-scale show, in which young acting and former theater artists, as well as Russian celebrities, performed.
- For three years, since 2004, the Moscow Children's Variety Theater has been a member of New Year’s city projects, the “Song of the Year” festival, as well as concerts with Russian show business stars.
Large-scale concert events
In the dense, rich theater and concert activities of the Moscow Theater and Theater Theater, one can name a number of the most significant performances: at the Meeting of Santa Claus (Manezhnaya Square), Christmas Tree (Cathedral Square), and the charity concert Together We Can Do More (Izmailovo CC) .
In addition, the actors of the theater participated in such events:
- Gala concert dedicated to the award of the “Public Recognition” Award;
- concert program for veterans of the Great Patriotic War (Palace of Culture "Architects");
- government project “Say no to terror!”

The theater’s victories include three diplomas from the Moscow Romansiad, the degree of laureates of Tbilisi (the “Pigeons of Hope” contest) and the “Young Talents of Russia”, the first place in the TV show “Cool Company”.
Moscow Children's Variety Theater: repertoire
Today, the troupe has seven performances for children of different age categories:
- "Snow Maiden." In a musical fairy tale based on A. N. Ostrovsky, you can hear the modern sound of Russian folk motifs, which, combined with games and fun (with the participation of the audience) is the key to a great pastime and good mood.
- “The Wizard of the Emerald City” is an adventure story about a girl Ellie, carried away by a hurricane to a magical land. In this production, young actors are helped by their adult colleagues.
- “Blue Bird” - a play based on the play by M. Meterlink in a new format. It is set in the form of a fascinating quest (travel game) through a fairy-tale world with the participation of adults and children.
- “Snip!” Snap! Snurre! ” - New Year's musical production, created on the basis of Andersen's fairy tales.
- "Where are the wizards?" - this performance will show the amazing and funny adventures of Dunno and his friends. The production includes songs by the legendary creative tandem Yu. Entin - M. Minkov.
- "The State of Children" is a unique action in which 120 children aged from five to fifteen years are simultaneously involved on the stage.
On the poster of the Moscow Children's Variety Theater you can see an invitation to a seemingly completely non-children's play "The Master and Margarita." This production is designed for viewers from the age of 12 and is a musical in the style of symphonic rock, which includes elements of Russian song melody. The plot is based on the great novel of the same name by Mikhail Bulgakov.
