Malaga Airport (Spain) is considered the main air harbor of the entire southern coast of the country and is twenty minutes from the city. It is often also called the Pablo Picasso Airport . This is not surprising, because the city is the birthplace of the famous artist.
general description
Málaga International Airport is the largest in Andalusia and is in fourth place in Spain in terms of workload. The average annual number of passengers allowed has recently reached 13 million. In this indicator, it is second only to the air harbors of Madrid, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca. Flights come from all over Spain and many major European cities. In the summer, flights to New York are even carried out from here. The terminal itself is located about ten kilometers from the city.
The air harbor consists of three terminals (one of them is not currently in use) and two runways, the length of which is 3200 and 2750 meters. It should be noted that the second of them was built relatively recently - in 2012. At the same time, thanks to its appearance, the maximum possible throughput has significantly increased, which is now estimated at 30 million passengers a year. The scheme of the airport "Malaga" is shown below.
Services
In order to pass the waiting time for their flight, passengers are offered many services on the territory of the terminal building. Among their standard types, one can name bank branches, ATMs, left-luggage offices, mother and child rooms, mail and others. In addition, there are a large number of restaurants, cafes and shops. The building also has separate areas for people who have business class tickets. On the ground floor of the main building there are representative offices of various companies that provide a service such as car rental.
Overnight stay
Numerous traveler reviews indicate that the Malaga Airport is far from the most comfortable place to stay. The fact is that the lounge is available only to passengers traveling in business class, while the seats in the waiting rooms are designed exclusively for a sitting position. Among other things, none of the above institutions work at night.
Public transport
The easiest and cheapest way to get to the city is public transport. From the train station, located near the building, commuter trains run to the center. To get to it, you need to climb the escalator from the waiting room to the second floor, and then follow the signs. It is important to have euro coins with you. The fact is that train tickets are purchased in a machine that does not give change. Travel time to the center by train is about twenty minutes. As for its value, the price depends on the distance to the final destination, however, as a rule, it does not exceed three euros. In addition, the Malaga Airport has a developed network of bus routes. With this type of transport, you can get from here to almost any city on the Costa del Sol - Cadiz, Torremolinos, Granada, Marbella, Gibraltar and others. The bus stop is right next to the third terminal.
Taxi and transfer
Be that as it may, it is often very difficult to get to the city yourself. This is especially true for those people who first arrived at the airport "Malaga" and do not speak foreign languages well. Such travelers are advised to take a taxi or order a transfer. In the first case, you will have to pay about twenty euros for a trip to the city center. As for the second of these options, it is considered more preferable when traveling by large companies, as well as in the presence of a large amount of luggage.
