Fans of winter fishing for perch often use home-made spinners as bait . And the point here is not at all in saving. Catching a good specimen, and even on a spinner of its own manufacture is an additional excitement.
It’s easy to make winter lures for perch with your own hands. It does not even need any equipment. All you need is source material, simple hand tools and desire. But first, let's determine the benefits of spinners in catching perch, as well as the basic requirements put forward for homemade baits.
The advantages of spinners over other types of winter perch bait
It is known that in winter, perch can be caught on live bait (bloodworms, caddis flies, maggots), ordinary mormyshka, reelless and spinner. The first three baits do an excellent job mainly at shallow and medium depths when catching a flock of "sailor".
If we are talking about humpback, which is found at a depth of more than 5 m - this is a real predatory winter fishing. Spinners for perch, especially large sizes, are simply irreplaceable here. At depth, it is better visible, it cannot be carried away by the current, and a good game of such a bait can bring a humpback to life even during periods of low activity.
What properties should have a winter bait on perch
The main task of winter baubles is to attract a predator with your game. Without it, any bait is just a piece of metal. For the game to set, the bait must have the appropriate weight and shape. For a small perch, spinners from 2 to 5 cm long are used, but for the "humpback" large models are used - from 5 to 9 cm.
Significant catchy winter baubles for perch, despite the fact that they are made of materials such as stainless steel, copper and aluminum, which themselves have the color of a fish, very often have the original coloring. A drawing that mimics the eye of a fish, fin or speck of blood can complement the overall picture and enhance the effectiveness of the bait.
Spoons, depending on the purpose, can be equipped with a single, double or triple hook. Its type and size are selected based on the size of the bait.
To begin with, let's try to make simple winter baubles on a perch with our own hands. Photos of homemade products will be presented below. In order not to waste money on materials, it is better to start with what is lying under your feet.
Do-it-yourself winter baubles on a perch from a beer can
You can practice making baubles on a regular can of beer, coffee or canned food. Lures made of thin sheet aluminum or tin can be used for fishing on a "sailor" on the shallows in zero flow conditions. Of the tools we need scissors for metal, an awl and sandpaper. Two crown rings and a tee no larger than No. 7 are also required.
We cut the jar and straighten it into a sheet. Remove the paint from the outside with a sandpaper. We mark the workpieces with a size of 2 x 4 cm. Cut them. We round the sharp edges and make holes for the rings with an awl. Then we grind everything, getting rid of burrs.
Now the future spinners need to be bent along the vertical axis. To do this, put the workpiece in an ordinary tablespoon, with the help of any soft rounded surface, smooth it with effort and give it the necessary shape. After that we fasten the rings and the hook. Using red nail polish, you can color the head of the baubles. Now you can experience.
This, of course, is not the most catchy winter spinner for perch, but they work, especially during periods of high activity of the striped predator.
Tweezer Pilker
Pilker is a small perch bait for winter fishing. At home, it is made from a single piece of stainless steel, silver, brass or copper.
We will make a small pilker for fishing on a “sailor” from ordinary tweezers intended for cosmetic needs. All we need is tweezers themselves, or rather, one of its “paws”, a hacksaw for metal, a drill with a thin drill, a file, sandpaper, two winding rings and a triple hook.
We mark the half of the tweezers in such a way that a third of the length of the future pilker falls on the notches, and two thirds on the smooth surface of the “foot”. We cut the workpiece with a hacksaw, smooth it with a file and round off the edges of the cuts. Further along the edges we drill holes for fastening the clockwork rings. After that, we carefully grind everything with sandpaper. We fix the rings and fasten the hook from the side where the notches are located. Spinner is ready.
Pilker from the handle of a spoon
Do-it-yourself winter lures for perch can even be made from ordinary dessert or teaspoons, more precisely, from their pens. The process, in principle, is the same: we mark the workpiece of the desired length, cut it off, drill holes for the rings and grind it. We attach the hook on the wider side. If the handle of the spoon has some kind of pattern on one of the surfaces, don't worry, let it stay. If necessary, one side of the pilker can be painted in the required color with nail polish.
The described pilkers do a good job of catching perch at shallow depths in still water.
"Trihedral" of the power cable
From an ordinary aluminum core of an electric cable it is possible to make a good trihedral spinner similar to those produced by Akme. It will take a piece of a core of a power cable of a triangular section with a triangle height of 1 cm and a length of 4 cm. The edges of the baubles are cut at an angle of 30-45 degrees so that the workpiece profile resembles a trapezoid. Holes under the rings are drilled on the slices. An aluminum spinner of this size will have an approximate weight of 4.5-5 g, which makes it quite suitable for hunting "humpback" at depths of more than 5 m.
Homemade "Kastmater" from a copper tube
Without any difficulties, you can make winter baubles on a perch with your own hands from a copper tube. If everything is done correctly, they will work no worse than the branded Castmaster from the same Akme company.
For this homemade product we will need:
- a piece of copper tube with a cross section of 8-10 mm;
- drill with a set of drills;
- hacksaw for iron;
- soldering iron, acid for soldering, solder;
- protractor;
- file;
- emery cloth;
- 2 winding rings;
- double (triple) hook size No. 7-8
Using the protractor, draw a line going to the right at an angle of 17 degrees. We shift the starting point 3-4 mm to the left and outline the second straight line in the same direction, only at an angle of 23 degrees.
Now, using a hacksaw, we saw off the edges of the tube on both sides so that we get a washer extended in one direction. Next, heat the soldering iron, treat the inside of the workpiece with acid, fill it with molten solder. Having departed from the edges of 2-3 mm, we drill holes for the clockwork rings, after which we carefully grind the surfaces until they become absolutely smooth. After that we catch the rings and the hook.
Practice shows that winter fishing of perch on a spinner such as “Castmaster” is quite effective, even if it's homemade. The form that is unusual at first glance for the spinner creates a unique game of bait, and the visual image created by the two-color body attracts any predator perfectly.
Home-made deep bait “torpedo”
After practicing, we will try to make more complicated winter spinners for perch with our own hands. Drawings of future bait are preliminarily made on paper. We draw a figure in the form of an elongated drop 30-40 mm long. The width of the “torpedo” in the upper part is 10 mm, in the lower part - 3 mm. Next, we make a piece of paper, cutting out our drawing.
Now you need to prepare materials and tools. We will need:
- copper sheet 0.5 mm thick;
- awl;
- scissors for metal;
- soldering iron, acid and solder;
- hammer;
- a drummer with a rounded impact surface or a set of steel balls;
- thick rubber;
- a piece of copper wire with a cross section of 0.5-0.6 mm;
- hook No. 4-6 (single);
- file;
- sandpaper.
Transfer the drawing to a sheet of copper and cut two identical blanks. Each of them must be convex in shape over the entire surface. To do this, we lay the workpiece on thick rubber, using a hammer or a metal ball of the required size and a hammer, give the surface a bulge.
Next, the inner part of each of the preforms must be treated with acid and coated with a layer of solder. From copper wire you need to make two small loops for attaching the clockwork rings, and solder them from the inside to one of the sidewalls.
After this, the halves must be folded together and the connection line soldered so that the water does not get inside the baubles. Upon completion of the main work, the workpiece is carefully cleaned with a file and polished with sandpaper until it becomes absolutely even and smooth.
Thread the clockwork rings into the holes. We attach the hook on the wide side of the baubles.
