Airport History
In the twenties of the last century, biplanes were assembled near the village of Kovyrino.
Later, in the thirties, the first passenger aircraft began to appear in the district. Immediately began the active establishment of a system of regular transportation on the route Arkhangelsk - Moscow. Naturally, flights were carried out with transfers that were carried out in the city of Vologda.
Until the end of the seventies, there was a huge passenger flow. Cargo turnover also had quite impressive indicators. Due to such a huge number of flights, the terminal building was overloaded. In addition, due to any minor error of the dispatchers, collisions of aircraft in the air and on the runway could pass.
Due to the inability of the airport to service such a large passenger flow, the management decided to close the building, which happened in 1978. At the moment, this territory, called the "old Vologda airport" is occupied by various warehouses.
In 1981, the commissioning of the new airport building took place. The airline began its active development; several new models of aircraft with greater capacity began to be used to transport passengers.

The airport serves only domestic flights, it does not carry out any international flights. Registration of passengers, as well as baggage check-in, starts two hours before departure, and ends forty minutes before it.
To check in for a flight, you will need to present your ticket and passport. If a passenger purchased an electronic ticket for the flight to register for the flight, he will only need to present his passport.

There are several ways to do this.
By bus number 36, which runs daily from six in the morning until eleven in the evening. The cost of the road will be only sixteen rubles, the bus passes through the whole city. You can also get to the runway by special bus No. 133, which leaves towards the airport from the railway station.
A personal car or taxi is also available. Vologda is rich in such services. The airport is located north of the city, you need to go along the M8 highway.
