Aeroflot Fleet History

During the Soviet Union, almost all of the company's aircraft were manufactured in the USSR. All flights of civil airlines and even some military flights were carried out by the largest airline in the country.

In the 40-50s, Li-2 was used to transport passengers. This aircraft has been manufactured in the USSR since 1939.

In 1947, the IL-12 and IL-14 were gradually launched into operation. Used and biplanes brand An-2. This model of the aircraft was used by Aeroflot for passenger and cargo transportation until the 80s.

Since the mid-50s, Tu-104, Tu-114 flew. In 1962, the Tu-124 was launched, and in 1967 the Tu-134.

Airplanes of the Tu-134 model are still used for flights.

For the first time, the company began using foreign aircraft in 1992. Then Aeroflot acquired an AZ10 aircraft. In 1994, the airline added a number of Boeing, Airbus, and Douglas DS-10 cargo planes to the fleet. Now more than half of the airline fleet is issued by foreign companies.

All used liners were acquired after 1994 in the Aeroflot fleet. The age of aircraft flying in most cases does not exceed 20 years.

Accidents and scandals

Since the 1950s, Aeroflot recorded 127 different accidents and crashes, which killed 6895 people.

In 1994, the Airbus A310 airliner crashed in Siberia, near Mezhdurechensk. This happened due to the fact that the aircraft commander, turning on the autopilot, put his 15 year old son in his place. While the young man was sitting on his father's seat and β€œsteered”, the autopilot somehow disconnected. The plane went into a tailspin and crashed. After this incident, security measures on board the company's aircraft were strengthened.

In 1996, when landing at the airport of Turin in Italy, the An-124 Ruslan plane crashed, which Aeroflot leased from another company. For some reason, the plane hit the wheels of one of the houses in the village and fell on a farm 5 km from the airport. In that accident 5 people died, 11 were injured. The company, from which Aeroflot then leased the An-124, is still trying to sue compensation for the crashed plane.
