What is the theater "Buff" (St. Petersburg)? First of all, you need to recall what this name means. Everyone knows Mayakovsky with his "Mystery Buff" and probably guess that it is a theatrical genre, a favorite of the democratic public, where music, dance, song and a fun comedy show are combined. Theater "Buff" in St. Petersburg is the only one of its kind, and therefore has a stunning success and is very popular not only among residents of the city on the Neva.
Everything for the viewers
The theater "Buff" (St. Petersburg) has three stages. The auditorium of the main stage accommodates three hundred people, in the Mirror Hall - one hundred seats, there is also the Buff-Plus chamber lounge - the most fun of the venues, which can accommodate only fifty spectators. On the main stage there are performances, on the other two - also performances and performances of the pop plan. The Buff Theater (St. Petersburg) pays great attention to the genre of the musical, both domestic and foreign, with the domestic being clearly loved more.
This is reasonable, since Western musicals rarely allow the plot line to dominate - dances, songs and jokes most often absorb it. Domestic, on the other hand, puts the dramatic foundation at the forefront: songs and dances, especially jokes, are subject to the plot, and not vice versa. Nevertheless, the repertoire at the Buff Theater (St. Petersburg) is rich, not a single production has lost its ease of perception, they have retained psychological depth, and humor remarkably saturates the entire fabric of the work.
In the living rooms
In order for an actor to be accepted into this theater, he needs to be able to do a lot. And to sing, and dance, and improvise in the composition of parodies, and even show tricks. This is exactly what happens in the living rooms. In the Mirror Living Room, spectators actively relax, although they are located in soft chairs at the served tables. Actively - because they are constantly involved in the action, they participate in the program almost on a par with the artists.
In the Buffet Plus lounge, many viewers attend their own and corporate events. And certainly, that not one of them will ever be forgotten, the artists organize this action so well.
The theatrical stage is the fad of this temple of culture. Passing along Zanevsky Prospekt, where the theater is now located, passers-by sometimes do not believe their eyes when a gentleman dressed in eighteenth-century fashion comes around the corner and leads a lady in a magnificent dress by the arm. Artists like to surprise and do it even on the streets!

Troupe
The artistic director and founder of today's theater is Isaac Stockbant, professor at the Academy of Theater Arts in St. Petersburg, People's Artist of Russia. It was his graduates of the stage of pop artists who did not disperse in different directions in 1983 after receiving diplomas, but remained in the city, organizing their own theater.
They wanted to call it a cabaret theater, but in the Soviet Union this genre was not in honor. But the name "Buff" liked the high authorities. In principle, they were not correctly allowed, because the collective would have to follow the laws of the genre. And now the theater’s activities are much wider and not limited to the framework of one genre. The art of cabaret could not in any way embody what is happening here today. The theater is really synthetic!
Cast
At the moment, graduates from the theater academy of different years work in the theater, mainly from the departments of musical theater and pop music. The honored artists of Russia Kozorovitskaya, Smilyanets, Zubovich, Smirnov, Magilevich, Bobrovnichaya, Solovyov, Shakorukov, Sultaniyazov, Alexandrov shine on these stages. Spectators and laureates of pop art contests Stekolnikov, Syabitov, Bondaruk, Kulaev, Suta, Pikalo and everyone else adore.
The small innovative team of yesterday’s students of LGITMIK turned into a major cultural center of St. Petersburg. The theater has a pronounced own face, determined by the direction of activity. This is the only multi-genre theater that has in its repertoire cabaret programs, variety shows, vaudevilles, musicals, farces, comedies and tragicomedy.
Repertoire
Here are the best examples of European and Russian classical comedy. The main stage is composed by Machiavelli and Labisch, Moliere and Cervantes, Scribe and Dumas, Sukhov-Kobylin and Figueiredo, Crommelinka and Dürrenmatt, Ilf with Petrov and Anui. The performances such as The Great Combinator according to Ilf and Petrov, Squaring the Circle by Kataev, Heavenly Quiet Walker and One Absolutely Happy Village after Vakhtin and Vasilyev are very successful.
The theater staff considers it their duty to acquaint the audience with the new names of the authors of dramatic works, as well as with various forms of comedy genres. These are the first productions in Russia of foreign and native Petersburg playwrights. The love of the domestic musical has already been described above.
The repertoire has many productions for a children's audience. On weekends and during vacations at all three stages of the theater, the loud laughter of St. Petersburg children sounds. Moreover, children do not just watch: the game beginning, as always in this theater, also makes small spectators participate in each performance.
