And in 1924, on October 1, when the first production took place - “Moscow from the point of view”, the theater had a basement at the address: Bolshoi Gnezdnikovsky Lane, 10. And the institution where the premiere was called, “The First House of Nirnzee” - before that there was the Bat Theater, and now the GITIS Educational Theater.

But it was on that day that the Moscow Academic Theater of Satire was born !

And then what? ..

Already in the thirties, the newly minted theater moved to another room, which was located on Sadovo-Triumfalnaya Street. Previously, there was a variety show, and later another Moscow theater, Sovremennik, settled down.

And about any scheme of the hall of the Theater of Satire at that time there was no question. Because the halls were very simple and modest in size. The main thing was that there was a place where you can conduct rehearsals and play performances - even if not in front of a large, but public!

But when the theater in 1965 moved to a new building, in which the Nikitin’s circus was once located, with a huge stage and a hall with a capacity of 1250 people, then he began to live a truly new life!

According to the scheme of the hall of the Satire Theater, it is clear that this is a spacious theater room with an amphitheater, stalls, lodges.

Under the dome of the room is the "Attic of the Satire", which leads to very steep stairs.

A bit of history ...

In the very first production - “Moscow from the point of view” - young writers and playwrights played:

- Ardov Victor Efimovich;

- Volin Boris Mikhailovich;

- Erdman Nikolai Robertovich;

- Nikulin Lev Veniaminovich and others.

The artistic director of the theater at that time was Gutman David Grigorievich.

Initially, the repertoire of the Satire Theater (it was also called “Terevsat”) included small agitational plays and observers (“Moscow from a point of view”). The themes of these productions, as a rule, dealt with pressing issues of politics, the life of the people, the city. On stage, they could be seen from the other side, from a different angle.

The head of the theater Gutman D.G. was a very talented director who knew how to find an approach to each actor, stir up, inspire, reveal any creative idea that was thrown to him by young people, bringing it to a miniature scene, which was then shown on the theater stage.

New era

Mayakovsky’s plays “Bath”, “Mystery Buff”, “Bedbug” and others, which were staged already in the post-war years, brought wide popularity to the Satire Theater. It was with these productions that the Theater truly declared itself as a serious comedy.

An epic event was the arrival in 1957 of a new director - Valentin Pluchek. It was under him that the most colorful and popular theater troupe was created: A. Mironov, A. Papanov, T. Peltzer, V. Vasiliev, O. Arosev, M. Derzhavin, A. Shirvindt and others.

The most famous productions of the new director: “Was Ivan Ivanovich?”, “Damocles Sword”, “Terkin in the Other World”.

Theater today

"We are still funny" - the slogan of the theater at the present time! And it's true, he is still the same comedic-satirical still. Moreover, since 2000, Alexander Anatolyevich Shirvindt became its artistic director.

The layout of the halls of the Satire Theater is currently visible in the photo below.

Big hall

The repertoire of the Big Stage includes such productions: “Twelfth Night,” “Roads that Choose Us,” “A Nightmare on Lursin Street,” “Never Late,” “Ornifl,” “Wedding in Robin,” “Too Married Taxi Driver,” “ Dog in the Hay ”and others.

The chamber scene “The Attic of the Satire” in its repertoire has the following performances: “Crazy Money”, “... And the Sea”, “Husband and Wife will rent a room”, “Tears Invisible to the World”, “My Relatives” and others.

But something remained unchanged: the quality of the game, great humor, first-class actors!
