The airport in the city of Krasnoyarsk is an integral part of Siberian air traffic. The history of its creation is extremely interesting.
The need for construction
The need for a modern airdrome arose after the start of World War II.
The facility was commissioned in 1942. Three years later, the complex expanded significantly - two runways, hangars, warehouses, garages were built. The evacuated Kharkov Aviation School was located right there. In the workshops, damaged equipment was repaired.
In 1946, the airfield was transformed into an airport. In 1954, an airport terminal was built.
Local lines were served by Il-14 and An-24 aircraft. The IL-18 could be reached in Moscow, Leningrad, Irkutsk, Khabarovsk, Vladivostok and other large cities.
In the 1970s, the design of a new facility began. Krasnoyarsk Airport was located in the city, in the midst of dense buildings and did not have opportunities for expansion. The final closure took place in 1987. But until that time, the Krasnoyarsk airport worked very fruitfully for the benefit of the region's residents. At the time of closure, it could receive the most modern aircraft.
New airport
The opening of the new facility took place on October 25, 1980. The Krasnoyarsk Airport received a facility with the name Emelyanovo. The same name has the area in which the airport is located. It is located twenty-six kilometers from the regional center.
Advanced infrastructure made it possible to receive the supersonic Tu-144. But due to the low profitability of transportation, the main one in the state was Il-86.
Recent story
In the transition period of the early nineties, the airport experienced difficult times. But thanks to the coordinated work of the team, I was able to continue my work.
In 1993 the status of "international airport" was obtained. Krasnoyarsk was one of the first cities in the Russian Federation to accept foreign ships.
The terminal for the relevant transport was commissioned in 2005.
In 2001, a large-scale repair of the runway began with a complete replacement of the coating, which lasted almost five years.
In addition, serious measures were taken to build up the material and technical base.
The success of the airport could not go unnoticed. Emelyanovo becomes the base or hub for the major airlines Severny Veter, Taimyr, Pegasus Fly, and KrasAvia.
The closest cooperation with international companies in the field of cargo transportation was built with the German company Lufthansa.
In 2012, the airport began servicing Boeing 747 and Boeing 777 aircraft.
To date, the annual passenger flow has exceeded two million people.
The main domestic areas: Moscow, Khabarovsk, Sochi, Norilsk, St. Petersburg, Novokuznetsk, Novosibirsk. International: Bangkok, Kamran, Baku, Bishkek, Goa, Beijing.

- Krasnoyarsk is a place from where you can fly to almost any major city. The total area of the airport is almost six hundred hectares. Given the continuous development, this figure is constantly increasing.

Prospects
To maintain the status of one of the most modern airports not only in the Siberian region, but throughout the Russian Federation, measures are constantly being taken to develop the complex.
In the future, a transport and logistics hub of the corresponding international class will be equipped, an increase in the throughput of the cargo terminal and equipment with modern equipment will occur.
It is planned to merge with the nearby Cheremshanka Airport, which also has a modern runway.
In general, measures taken should increase the capacity of the airport by almost four times.
