In 1832, Emperor Nicholas I decided to create the Academy of the General Staff in St. Petersburg. Its mission was to train officers and promote military science. The Military Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Federation is the Federal State Treasury Military Educational Institution. Higher and senior officers of the Armed Forces undergo training, training and advanced training at a higher military educational institution. In addition, leaders and officials are trained at the Military Academy of the General Staff, the place of service of which has become other ministries and departments, enterprises and institutions associated with the military-industrial complex. A bit of history
Previously, the university was called the Imperial Military Academy. It was later renamed the Nikolaev Academy of the General Staff. According to historians, in the Civil War, many teachers and students switched to the side of the "whites". For this reason, in 1918, the Revolutionary Military Council decided to create a higher military educational institution in Moscow to train the commanding staff. Operated under the leadership of Lieutenant General A. Klimovich, a former graduate of the Nikolaev Academy. During the entire Civil War, many prominent military leaders of the Red Army left the Moscow university.
In 1921, the higher educational institution was reorganized and renamed the Military Academy of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. From 1936 until the start of World War II, over 600 officers received military training at the academy. In wartime, the Academy provided accelerated courses of 6 and 9 months. During this period, employees of the institution released more than 1,200 people and published over 2,000 textbooks and scientific papers. In 1946, a two-year period of study was renewed.
About structure
There are three faculties in the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Federation, namely: national security and defense, advanced training and retraining, and a special one. In this educational institution there are 12 departments in which students master:
- military strategy;
- operational art;
- military management;
- intelligence;
- construction and use of the aerospace forces and navy;
- physical fitness;
- They study the history of wars and military art;
- information security;
- study foreign and Russian languages;
- logistical support.
Tasks
According to experts, in addition to the training function, the staff of the Military Academy of the General Staff deal with issues related to military security, construction, training and use of aircraft. Especially for these purposes, the academy is equipped with research and military institutes, military-strategic, scientific-practical and research centers, research laboratory. Using a universal and domestic military history, they are engaged in fundamental, problem-search and applied research at a research institute, and defense management in a military institute.
The center for military-strategic research solves issues related to military construction and the use of armed forces, and in the scientific and practical one, they develop, test and coordinate the fundamental charter documents of the Russian armed forces. It also explores and implements methods of military career guidance and professional selection for draftees. The employees of the research center train scientific and pedagogical personnel at the Military Academy of the General Staff, organize, plan and coordinate scientific work on their preparation, as well as solve pressing issues in military science. The research laboratory deals with problems related to education, analyzes the state of the process, and then offers a number of recommendations and suggestions for improving it.
About the training base
Today, the Academy has electronic computers, five lecture halls, 50 different study and methodology rooms, five language laboratories and four libraries. Lectures are given in 46 classrooms.
Since its inception, the library has made up 500 books donated by Nicholas I. Today, the library has 32,000 books, 12,000 of which are rare. The Academy is equipped with a sports complex and a swimming pool, gyms and games rooms, summer sports fields and a shooting range.
