In the sixties of the last century, the construction of this building became a symbol of the scientific and technical progress of the USSR. The height of the Ostankino tower is almost three hundred meters more than the height of the world famous Eiffel Tower . Her project was developed by design engineer Nikolai Vasilyevich Nikitin. In the initial version, the height of the Ostankino tower was 533.3 meters, however, to date, the design has "grown" to 540 meters.
A feature of this grandiose concrete structure is that the TV tower, with its impressive weight (55 thousand tons) and the permissible deviation of the peak under the pressure of wind masses of 11.65 meters, can never tip over. The fact is that the center of gravity is located inside its support, bounded by a sixty-meter foundation ring, at a height of 110 meters on the very axis of the structure, around which 150 steel ropes are stretched from top to bottom like strings! Each of them is stretched with seventy-ton force. According to the author’s forecasts, this design should stand at least three hundred years, even though its official life is 150 years.
The height of the Ostankino tower is most occupied by sightseers who have been visiting this place since 1969. And there is something to see here. Inside the structure are numerous lines and channels for television and radio antennas. Most indoor spaces are halls and laboratories. They are equipped with plumbing, sewage and telephone lines.
Seven huge elevators deliver four guests to the guests and the tower staff, four of them are high-speed. The main place for excursions is a circular viewing room, surrounded by glass, behind which an amazing panoramic view of Moscow opens. It is located at an altitude of 337 meters and is considered the most spectacular observation deck of the capital.
Slightly lower is one of the most famous restaurants in Moscow - Seventh Heaven. Visitors are primarily attracted by the height of the Ostankino tower. Guests receive three rooms, which are located under each other. The highlight of this place is that the restaurant literally rotates! The tables are on the platform, which in an hour makes a complete revolution around its axis. The glass walls of the restaurant allow you to admire the views of the city from all sides. It is especially beautiful here at night.

Modern Muscovites are always ready to tell how many meters the height of the Ostankino tower. After the fire in 2000, when three floors of the structure completely burned out, and a huge part of the population was left “without a TV and radio,” the residents of the city ceased to perceive this building simply as an antenna. The fire destroyed several dozen concrete cables that ensure the stability of the entire structure, but the tower survived! After that, there were many assumptions that after the restoration this building will still “grow”. True, they did not materialize.
Today it is one of the landmark places for Moscow. It doesn’t matter what the height of the Ostankino Tower (this building has not been the highest in the world for a long time), it’s important that it is a perfectly preserved symbol of the era when the capital of Russia, or rather the USSR, was the leader of scientific and technological progress throughout the world.
