At the moment, the Cherepovets airport is the largest in the entire Vologda Oblast. In addition, he is the only one here engaged in international transportation. According to statistics, the total passenger flow in one year is approximately one and a half million people.
History
The very first airport near Cherepovets appeared in the thirties of the last century. It was located in the village of Malechkino, about three kilometers from the city. This airport allowed you to quickly move from Cherepovets to St. Petersburg, Vologda, Moscow and Syktyvkar.
Later, in the seventies, it was decided that it was necessary to transfer it to the village of Botovo, which is twenty-five kilometers from the city. Four years later, the airport moved to its new location.
In the late nineties, it was decided to reconstruct the complex after its long downtime. After the completion of all reconstruction works, in 2006 the airport received the certification necessary for it to work and the right to serve not only intercity, but also international flights.
Airport infrastructure
Severstal Airport (Cherepovets) includes the following components:
1. VIP-lounge, which is located in the right wing of the building. For visitors, this room offers a small bar where you can drink tea, coffee, alcoholic beverages. The airport also provides snacks. Cherepovets also offers its guests the opportunity to hold negotiations and meetings in this room.
2. The room of mother and child. Located in the left wing of the airport. These rooms have all the conditions necessary for a good rest for parents and children. There are beds of different sizes, a changing table, a dining room where you can cook your own food or order it from the buffet. In addition, a small pediatrician’s office is located in the left building. The doctor will be able to help a child who feels unwell. This room is free of charge, but only if the child is under seven years old.
3. First-aid post. Only qualified doctors work here, who are around the clock ready to provide assistance to any passenger who feels unwell.

The first among the other similar regional institutions introduced the service “Paste your luggage” at this airport. Cherepovets thanks to this compares favorably with a low amount of stolen and lost baggage. The cost of such a service is only two hundred rubles.
How to get to the airport
Not so close to the airport. Cherepovets is at some distance, you need to spend time traveling to your destination. This is done for several reasons, including reducing the noise level during take-off and landing of aircraft.

The easiest and most popular way is to use your own car. To get to your destination, you need to leave Cherepovets on the A114 highway, after which, guided by the signs "Botovo" or "Airport", turn right. Following the signs, you need to move to the village, drive through it and drive to your destination. The total journey will be approximately 20 minutes.
You can also make a trip by public transport, but this method is not entirely convenient, since there are not always empty seats.
You need to go to the ticket offices at the bus station of the city, get a ticket for the bus Cherepovets-Vologda, which makes the arrival at the airport. Separately, it is worth noting that such a bus runs every three hours, so the exact time can be found in the help desk. Also, a similar ticket can be purchased immediately from the bus driver. The cost will be one hundred rubles. The total journey time is about forty minutes.
