Three years ago, the Noah Hawley series “Fargo” was released - a mixture of thriller, crime, drama, melodrama and black humor. He immediately gained a lot of fans and received positive reviews. This spring, viewers were able to appreciate the 3rd season of the series “Fargo”.
History of creation
In 1996, the light was seen in the full-length film "Fargo," directed by the Coen brothers. It was from this picture that Noah Hawley took inspiration for the script of his work. The series relies heavily on the namesake tape, especially the first season. There are a lot of references to the works of the Coens in it.
The first season was released in the spring of 2014, and the main roles were played by such famous artists as Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman. He provoked a positive reaction, received many awards, and therefore it was decided to continue it. The second season appeared in the fall of 2015 (the central roles went to Patrick Wilson and Kirsten Dunst). In total, the two seasons of the series received 32 different awards.
The series "Fargo", season 3: plot
The third season of the popular series was filmed in Canada. Its action takes place allegedly in 2010. A brief description of the 3rd season of “Fargo” is as follows: a stepfather is killed by a woman-policeman and robbed of his house. She begins an investigation of what happened. The stepfather had the surname Stassi - exactly the same as the two brothers living in Minnesota - Emmit and Ray. And it is precisely with these brothers that the murder is connected: Ray, working in the police with probation, sent one of them to rob his brother's house. The offender mixed up the addresses and got to the wrong Stassi, to whom it was required. In addition, he also killed the old man ...
So the first episode of the season begins, and then the events unfold with incredible speed. The audience will see the enmity of the two brothers, and the love of Ray and the prematurely released criminal, and the desperate attempts of the heroine-policeman to establish the truth. The main villain will also appear on the series, whose machinations Ray Emmit’s brother will suffer a lot from frauds ... Those who love blood and murder will definitely enjoy the season.
Cast
Despite the fact that all seasons of the series are interconnected (it’s not worth specifying how to find out, it’s better to carefully watch the series itself), different artists play it every time. But always very talented. The actors of the 3rd season of “Fargo” were the most famous artists, more about them below. These are all central role performers. It is also necessary to note the secondary characters of the 3rd season of “Fargo”. Actors Scott Highlands, Fabian Bush, Michael Stalberg, Sylvester Grotto, Scoot McNary and others also proved to be extremely worthy. Needless to say - the cast really succeeded!
Ewan McGregor - Ray / Emmit Stassie
The Scot Ewan McGregor in the 3rd season of “Fargo” received the biggest screen time and the most difficult task - he had to play not one, but two, and polar different characters.
Ewan was born in the UK in 1971 and determined his life path at the age of nine. From the age of 16 he began to work in the theater - at first as a handyman, then he grew up to the acting troupe. He graduated from the school of music and drama, after which he began to actively act in films. Among his most famous works are the paintings “On the Needle”, “Star Wars”, “Big Fish”, “Island”, “Beauty and the Beast” and others.
Of all the actors of the 3rd season of Fargo, McGregor had the hardest time - he needed to transform from one image to another. He played two brothers, whose characters are completely different. Emmit Stassi - successful, handsome, surrounded by a loving family, made a brilliant career, rich. Ray Stassi is a loser policeman whose affairs are derailed, unmatched by his poorer (and uglier) brother, who is in love with prematurely released swindler Nikki Swango. However, he is lucky in love - and this is perhaps the only thing in which he succeeds. If at the beginning of the series Emmit is successful and businesslike, then towards the end he is overwhelmed with a variety of feelings, which McGregor was able to fully express. You believe him, mired in lies by Emmit, and his Ray, cowardly, but sincere, seeking to protect his beloved girl.
David Thewlis - V.M. Varga
Many Briton David Thewlis was remembered for his role as the charming, kind Rimus Lupine from the Harry Potter series. Watching his game in the world of magic, you do not believe that this actor can play negative characters. Meanwhile, it turned out, maybe, and how! It was the main villain in the 3rd season of the series “Fargo” who was entrusted to execute Thewlis.

David Thewlis, whose real name, by the way, is Wheeler, was born in 1963 and has been fond of music since childhood. In school, he even played in his own punk rock band. However, after graduating from school of music and theater, he preferred the theater. Later, he gradually began to act in films, and a film called “Nude” brought him many awards. Since then, Thewlis has been actively filming. In addition to his work in Harry Potter, his most striking paintings include The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Anonymous, War Horse, and others. “Fargo” was the first major series in which the actor played - also one of the leading roles. Describing his hero, Thewlis picked up the epithet “shameless” for him - perhaps this is the most accurate description.
V.M. Varga causes disgust, disgust. To achieve this effect, he was presented with several certain features - for example, he constantly picks his teeth. He is aggressive, insidious, cunning and insightful - to play such a character, you need really good acting skills and great talent. And David Thewlis, according to both critics and viewers, coped with his task perfectly.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead - Nikki Swango
Mary Elizabeth Winstead belongs to the young generation of actors of the 3rd season of "Fargo". However, despite her youth (she was just over thirty), she already managed to appear in such sensational projects as “Scott Pilgrim Against Everyone”, “I Seduced Andy Warhol”, “Grindhouse” and so on.
Mary was born in America, as a child, studied in a church choir and went to ballroom dancing. As a teenager, was carried away by the scene, played in the musical. Started filming in 1999. In the 3rd season of “Fargo,” Mary Elizabeth Winstead was honored to play a fraud girl, who, however, has some positive aspects. Winstead herself noted that it was fundamentally wrong to interpret her heroine solely from a negative point of view. The main plus of Nikki Swango is that she truly, sincerely knows how to love and is ready to do anything for her love. When you watch Mary play her, you really believe her.
Carrie Coon - Gloria Bergl
The main character, a policewoman, open, principled and fair, was also played by an American actress. Carrie Coon was born in 1981, graduated from an acting course at one of the US universities. For four years she played in the theater, since 2010 - she began acting in films. While her roles are few, in addition to “Fargo”, the major project for the actress was the film “Disappeared” by David Fincher. However, for her role in the series, she was nominated for an Emmy Award.
Her character in the TV series Fargo is calm, decisive and not used to retreating in front of any difficulties. She is a true fighter for justice, which, however, does not immediately manage to prevail. Gloria’s storyline was not without elements of humor - for example, sliding doors don’t “notice” her, and she is forced to jump in front of them in the hope that they will still open. Carrie Coon was able to show all the facets of her character's character - the nomination for a prestigious award says a lot!
