Theater History

Pskov Pushkin Theater

In 1898, the City Duma decided that Pskov needed a room for performances. The Pushkin Theater was decided to build according to the project of Eduard Germeyer. Its hall was supposed to accommodate 1,200 spectators. The construction was completed in 1906. Initially, the theater was called the A.S. Pushkin. Such great artists as V. Komissarzhevskaya, A. Duncan, F. Chaliapin, P. Strepetova, L. Sobinov, K. Varlamov and many others performed here. The name of the theater changed many times throughout its creative life. He received today's name after the end of the Second World War.

During the war, the Nazis captured the city of Pskov. The Pushkinsky Theater was used by the Germans as a club for events and concerts. The building was badly damaged by bombing and was plundered by the Nazis. In 1946, the theater was renovated and began to work again.

In the 1950s, such artists as V. Shubin, E. Vitorgan, T. Rumyantseva and many others began their career here.

In 1996, the theater began to carry the proud title of Academic.

An architectural monument is a building built in the early 20th century in the Art Nouveau style, which houses the Pushkin Theater (Pskov). His address: Pushkin street, house number 13.

From 2011 to 2014 there was a large-scale reconstruction of the theater building. The foundation was strengthened, the facades were restored, and decorative elements were restored.

The opening of the renovated theater took place in February 2014. President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin personally attended the gala evening dedicated to this significant event.

In recent years, the troupe began active cooperation with directors from other cities and countries.

Reconstruction

As mentioned above, in 1906 the city of Pskov acquired its drama theater. The Pushkinsky Theater (its building) gradually deteriorated, needed repair and re-equipment. Its last reconstruction was carried out in the distant 1946.

In 2008, Andrei Turchak became the new governor of the region. He immediately took control of the cultural sphere. It was he who allocated finances for the reconstruction of the building of the drama theater. Overhaul began in 2011. It lasted three years. The building has changed. Its interiors, decor, even the color of the walls were restored - as they were originally. Each room was equipped with furniture, lighting fixtures and curtains for windows, as close as possible to historical ones.

For the theater, a second building was built - next to the old one. The new premises housed rehearsal halls, workshops, an exhibition hall, workshops in which sets and costumes are made. Thus, the historical building was completely given to the artists, and all the technical staff moved to a new house. Today the theater has two halls: the main one, which holds 446 seats, and the Small one, designed for 112 spectators.

Now the theater is equipped with the latest technology. The most modern and high-quality sound, light and video equipment is installed here. A recording studio has been created.
