More than 3 million tourists from all over the world visit Israel annually. Most of them choose air transport. Each Israeli airport is prepared to receive foreign guests. In total, there are 17 civilian airports in the country, of which only 4 are of international importance.
Israel International Airports
The list of the most significant and largest "heavenly locks" of the country is as follows:
- An airport known as Ben Gurion.
- Uvda - located 60 kilometers from the resort city of Eilat.
- Haifa - located in the northeast of the city of the same name.
- Eilat - lies directly in the city of Eilat.
Of this list stands out, of course, Tel Aviv Airport, which bears the name of the first Israeli Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion. This "heavenly harbor" is the largest and main in the whole country. The annual passenger turnover of this airport exceeds in aggregate all others, including local ones.
History
The main airport of Israel was opened in 1936. Initially, it bore the name of Lydda Airport, later it was renamed Lod. But in 1973, after the death of the first Israeli Prime Minister, the airport got its current name.
Description
Israel's largest airport is located 15 kilometers from Tel Aviv. The complex consists of four terminals:
- The first terminal was built back in 1936. Today, this building primarily serves VIPs who have arrived at the airport in private jets.
- The second terminal was built at the end of the 20th century. But he worked only until 2007. The building was demolished, and a new luggage terminal is being built in its place.
- The third terminal was built relatively recently, in 2004. It takes the main stream of tourists from all over the world.
- The fourth terminal (standby) has not yet been officially opened.
Security
The main airport of Israel - Ben Gurion - is considered the safest in the world. Despite this status, tourists may not even notice it. After all, airport employees are absolutely no different from the crowd of tourists. Anyone passing by can be an employee of this airport. In addition, the building is equipped with all kinds of technical tools: telescopic ladders and x-ray installations.
Flights
The most popular airport in Israel cooperates with a huge number of airlines. Among the Russian ones, Aeroflot-Don, C7 Airlines, Transaero and Ural Airlines can be noted.
Runways
The airport has 3 lanes, each of which has its own name.
- "Home" - has a length of more than 3 kilometers. After the 2008 repair, the strip can take on the airbus class A380.
- βShortβ - almost two times shorter than the βMainβ band. Used mainly by civilian liners.
- βQuietβ is the largest strip, the length of which is 3,650 m. It was so named for one simple reason: airplanes flying to this strip fly over the fields, and not over residential buildings.
Thus, high throughput and security have made Ben Gurion Airport one of the most popular in the world.
