The history of the Stavropol airport has been around for eight decades. Back in 1934, in the current capital of the North Caucasus Federal District - in the city of Pyatigorsk - a civil aviation detachment was created, which was engaged in the transportation of mail, passengers and goods. Then this unit, consisting of pilots, was transferred to the city of Voroshilovsk (now Stavropol).
Historical excursion
The airfield was located east of the city's train station. In the prewar years, the aforementioned object of the transport infrastructure carried out regular aerial work, sent letters and parcels inside the country, and carried passengers.
In 1954, the Stavropol airport received aircraft models new at that time - aircraft L-60, Yak-12, AN-2. Six years later, the Stavropol-Moscow air route appeared.
In 1963, a new terminal building was built, which was located in the vicinity of the village of Shpakovskoye (present-day Mikhailovsk). Stavropol Airport is still there. Over time, the need for transporting people and goods by air has increased significantly. By 1985, the Stavropol airport had air links with 26 cities of the country.
Seven years later, a regional joint-stock airline was created. However, by the end of the 20th century, the Stavropol airport again became state property.
In 2010, by order of the head of the Russian state, the Stavropol International Airport was established.
Air terminal today
Currently, the above airport serves routes both within the country (St. Petersburg, Moscow) and beyond (Yerevan, Thessaloniki).
The technical characteristics of the Stavropol airport allow the landing and take-off of aircraft models such as AN-12, IL-114, Boeing-737-500, A 320, Yak-40, as well as helicopters of all modifications.
Today, the Stavropol airport cooperates with five well-known Russian carriers. If necessary, airport employees will repair the aircraft and refuel it. The apron territory accommodates thirteen parking spaces. All runways are equipped with modern navigation and meteorological devices. The international airport "Stavropol" has the following capacity: 35 tons per day and more than 300 passengers per hour.
In order to ensure the safety of passengers on the territory of the aforementioned facility, law enforcement bodies effectively serve.
