History

The stone building for the theater was built in 1897 according to the project of V. A. Shreret. He was in the service of the Russian emperor. The name of the outstanding director of the USSR N.P. Okhlopkov was assigned to the theater in the second half of the 20th century. The reason was the fact that this talented person began his career here. The title of academic theater was awarded at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries - in 1999. And in 2006, the team was awarded the F. Volkov Prize. Now the theater has two stage venues - the main and chamber. Its artistic director is G.V. Shaposhnikov. The director of the theater is A. A. Streltsov.
