History
Initially, for a long time the theater was amateurish; it received professional status only in 1850. There was no permanent troupe either. Performances were shown only by visiting guest performers. But in 1850, one of the wandering troupes remained in the city - this is how their first permanent actors appeared here. Soon a wooden building was built, which housed the Okhlopkov Theater (Irkutsk). His repertoire at that time was classic, and N. Polevoy's plays were also staged. Including the first performance was created on his work. The playwright N. Polevoy was born in Irkutsk.
The stone building for the theater was built in 1897 according to the project of V. A. Shreret. He was in the service of the Russian emperor. The name of the outstanding director of the USSR N.P. Okhlopkov was assigned to the theater in the second half of the 20th century. The reason was the fact that this talented person began his career here. The title of academic theater was awarded at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries - in 1999. And in 2006, the team was awarded the F. Volkov Prize. Now the theater has two stage venues - the main and chamber. Its artistic director is G.V. Shaposhnikov. The director of the theater is A. A. Streltsov.

Museum
The Okhlopkov Drama Theater (Irkutsk) invites viewers to visit their museum. It was created in 1988. The idea of ​​opening the museum belongs to the honored artist of Russia V.P. Sidorchenko. The exposition tells the story of the creation of the theater in the city and how the building was constructed in which he “lives” to this day. Also here you can see photos of those who developed theatrical art in Irkutsk. The museum also features posters and small programs of performances from the repertoire, photographs of actors, both modern and those who served here back in the 19th century, are collected. The museum stores sketches of costumes, mock-ups of scenery. The decoration of the exhibition are costumes for theater productions.
The museum is open daily. You can visit it from 11:00 to 17:00 hours. Entrance to the museum is paid. You can also visit the exhibition during the intermission. In this case, the entrance to the museum will be free.
Projects
The Okhlopkov Theater offers a wide variety of projects, in addition to performances, to citizens and those who come to visit Irkutsk. For example, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, an experiment is being conducted with difficult teenagers. For a month they are accepted to work in the theater, thereby helping the guys take the path of correction. Here, boys and girls perform various types of work and even go on stage. In the theater, teens communicate, acquire various skills, become involved in art, and develop.
The project "Scarlet Sails" is also known. This is a festival that is held for amateur theater groups of the Irkutsk region. It takes place in 2 stages. Applications for participation in the festival must be sent in advance, before the deadline indicated on the website of the Irkutsk theater.
Literary evenings are held every year, starting from 2007. Presentations of books are held at such meetings, and readers have the opportunity to meet contemporary writers, chat with them, and ask questions of interest.
City guests
In September, it is planned to arrive with a Moscow Et Cetera tour to the Okhlopkov Theater. The repertoire of the guests that they will bring with them consists of the following performances: Shylock, The Secret of Aunt Malkin and Comedy of Mistakes. As part of the Moscow troupe, the famous actor Alexander Kalyagin will arrive in Irkutsk .
“The Secret of Aunt Melkin” is a musical performance. The play, in which he was staged, was written by Alan A. Milne, who is known in our country as the author of the legendary fairy tale about Winnie the Pooh. The performance is intended for children, but adults will also like it. Shylock is a William Shakespeare comedy The Merchant of Venice. It tells about a Jewish moneylender who requires his client to pay human meat for late bills. Starring A. Kalyagin.
“Comedy of Errors” is also a performance based on the work of W. Shakespeare. This is a story about two twin brothers who lost each other but eventually found.
