Multimedia controller: how to remove the exclamation mark opposite

Although Microsoft is doing everything possible to simplify the work of users with its Windows operating system to the maximum extent possible, there are still situations when adjustments cannot be avoided.

One of the ways to simplify the use of the system, chosen by the developers from Microsoft, is to include in the distribution package an entire database of various drivers (devices in the internal database). As a result, during the installation of the operating system, they are searched and installed upon detection. Unfortunately, such a solution is not a panacea, since the drivers of devices released after the start of sales of the installation disk of the system, of course, cannot be included in the database. This is one of the most common reasons that a yellow exclamation mark (or even a question mark) is displayed in the list of the device manager opposite the "multimedia controller" icon.

Windows ascribes this to many of its devices. The sign opposite a device such as a multimedia controller will glow until the user installs the appropriate driver or fixes the problem. This does not affect the overall performance of the operating system. But it is enough to install the device driver "multimedia controller", how it is transformed. Most often we are talking about an audio adapter or a TV tuner card.

So, in order to fully configure all the software and hardware components of the computer, you need to select and install a driver for the multimedia controller. The easiest solution is to use the CD-ROM, which is always included with your laptop and computer. For a laptop, the procedure is as follows: insert the disk into the drive and start its shell (if autostart is disabled). Usually, everything is simplified there, so you should not reinvent the wheel, but it is better to install all the proposed drivers at once - for sure, the multimedia controller in the device manager will disappear. Owners of personal computers will have to do a little differently and install the drivers offered by the shells from all those drives that came with the computer (sound card, video card, motherboard, tuner, etc.).

Sometimes those devices that were once needed cease to be such, so they โ€œforgetโ€ to install the driver on them. The "multimedia controller" and the exclamation point are the result of such forgetfulness. But even without a driver, the device reserves some of the resources for itself, which is not entirely correct, so it should be turned off. Click on it with the right mouse button and select "Disable".

Support discs are sometimes unavailable for one reason or another. Even in this case, there is a convenient solution - find the driver yourself. Start with the motherboard. Having visited the manufacturerโ€™s website, you need to type in the name of your board in the search and download all the drivers offered for it. Some of them may be "in this way."

The following method is suitable for users of licensed (not hacked) versions of Windows. Through the menu of the "Start" button, open the control panel and go to the update center, where we start updating the system components. It is possible that on Windows Update will be the right driver. This operation will require an Internet connection.

You can use an alternative method. To do this, download and run Driver Updater (Smart Driver Updater) or a similar program. Its work is quite simple and consists in scanning the system for missing or outdated drivers and downloading the latest versions. Judging by the reviews, on most computers the efficiency of the program reaches 90% (it finds drivers for 4 of 5 devices).

Users with experience can try to determine the type of equipment hiding under the name "multimedia controller" by searching through the known ID equipment (viewed in the device manager), but this method can hardly be called optimal.
