Belgorod State Puppet Theater was created in the middle of the 20th century. Initially, his repertoire included performances only for children. Today, there are performances not only for young viewers, but also for an adult audience.
About the theater
Puppet Theater (Belgorod) was opened in 1962. At first it was a small studio, led by A. Shikova. After 4 years, a regional puppet theater was created at its base. It was headed by M.I. Annushkin. It was then called "New Theater for Children." The first performance that was staged here is “Malchish-Kibalchish”.
In 1972, N.E. Danilova became the main director of the theater. The most famous of her performances is Buka. He did not leave the scene for 25 years. N. Danilova is also known for the fact that the troupe accepted young people without a theater education, but with pronounced talents. She herself turned them into wonderful actors and clever puppeteers.
For the first 10 years, the Puppet Theater (Belgorod) did not have its own building. The artists huddled in a tiny room, and all the performances worked on other people's venues. In fact, the theater was away. The plight of the puppeteers of Belgorod was even filmed by the newsreel "Wick". After the footage was shown on television, the construction of the theater building began.
In 1975, Nekrasov Street was ready to receive actors in the new premises. In 1976, the premiere of a new performance took place already within the walls of its own building. The building was designed by architect V. Limarenko. The auditorium is designed for 230 seats. The scene is very well equipped. The building has all the premises and workshops necessary for the theater. Convenient make-up rooms are created for artists.
The eighties were a difficult period in the life of the theater. Managers and chief directors at this time very often changed. No one lingered for a long time.
In 1983, a tradition was born in the theater - every year in December to release New Year's performances. At the same time, the troupe was replenished with graduates of theatrical schools.
In 2004, N. Odintsov was appointed to the post of chief director. He served here since 1971 as an actor. The main director of the theater Nikolai Mikhailovich spent only 4 years. In 2008, he suddenly died.
In 2006-2008 the theater was overhauled. Many rooms in its course were reconstructed. The technical equipment of the stage was replaced by modern, meeting the requirements of the present time. Thanks to this, the theater got the opportunity to increase the level of its productions, change the repertoire and include more complex performances in it.
Since 2009, the artistic director of the puppeteers is Natalia Repina. Prior to that, she headed the theater in Yakutia and was awarded the title of Honored Worker of Culture of the Republic of Sakha.
Today, the theater’s repertoire includes about fifty productions. Actors actively tour, take part in contests and festivals. Each season, premieres of new performances are presented to viewers. Now the repertoire is designed not only for children, but also for the adult age category.
The theater also collaborates with directors and artists from other troupes with different worldviews.
Puppeteers of Belgorod sacredly honor traditions and preserve them. At the same time, they set new goals, they are not alien to modern forms of interaction with the viewer. They are looking for ways to talk with the audience in a language that they understand.
In addition to performances, the troupe also implements various interesting projects.
The theater makes a very big contribution to the spiritual and moral education of the younger generation, as well as their creative and aesthetic education. For this, the troupe was awarded with prizes and awards from the regional department of culture.
