The nylon cord must be braided and in no case twisted, its diameter should be four millimeters, and the required length depends on the conditions and specifics of fishing. Rings are made of wire, the same as fasteners, the diameter of each ring is usually from eight to ten millimeters. After the rings are installed, they need to be processed by soldering joints. In the event that the ears of the swivels are too small and do not slide freely along the nylon cord, then more rings will be needed.
The wire should be selected stainless steel, with a diameter of two to two and a half millimeters. Do not use the old wire, as it will not have such characteristics as elasticity. It is necessary to choose a medium-elastic wire. The best option for making kukan with your own hands is a wire for argon welding semiautomatic devices. In total, about five meters will be required.
DIY Clasps
In order to make the fasteners, you need to take a piece of wire, the length of which is 65 cm. Measure 23 cm from one end of the wire, this will be the bend point. After that, we clamp the rod with a vise and wrap it with a 10 mm wire. Then we bend the ends in the opposite direction so that the ring of the correct shape comes out.
Next, we take the short end and heat it on gas, after that we put on the swivel and wind the long end to the coil - two turns are enough. After completing this step, you need to straighten the short end along the long end. The next thing to do to make a kukan with your own hands is to measure 55 mm from the edge of the ring and re-make two tight turns around the long end short. As a result, it should come out so that the short end is perpendicular to the plane of the ring.
In order to form a loop, it is necessary to bend the short end of the wire in the opposite direction with the help of round-nose pliers, the height of the loop must not exceed 40 mm, the inner loop must be of the necessary size so that the wire can pass through it. After that, with the short end that remains, you need to make a few more turns around the long end, this is necessary for rigid fixation. A piece that remains superfluous is sawn off and processed with a file. The long end is leveled and a fastener is formed with it. We collect kukan on our own
Having the above materials available, as well as making fasteners, it remains only to complete the work and enjoy the result. First of all, you need to thread the end of the fastener through the loop, after that you need to hook the hook directly onto the ring. When the hook is hooked, we have a slammed trap.
The next step is to collect the bottom node of the kukan. Given that it is the lower node that bears the main load, it needs to be made very durable. To do this, we attach the lower (first) clasp to the loop, which was made using a thimble and a cord. Through the ring we connect the swivel of the fastener with a loop.
After that, using pliers we squeeze the ring, and the resulting joint is qualitatively soldered. Sew the cord with a braid.
Many anglers recommend additionally wrapping a coil to turn a cord after it has been sewn. Having done the above, it is necessary to string several bushings on the cord, then a fastener, etc. It is recommended to put from seven to eight fasteners, this is enough. At least not more than ten.
Having thus gathered the lower knot, we proceed to the collection of the upper knot. It is assembled on the same principle as the bottom. But instead of fasteners in the loop, a carabiner is used.
