Drop shot equipment - a universal device for fishing

Like many inventions of American anglers, the “drop shot” equipment has long proved to be excellent for catching not only predatory (perch, pike, pike perch), but also other fish (bream, silver bream, rudd).

Fishing principle

Drop shot equipment

What is the "drop shot" equipment? Fishing for her is nothing more than catching fish on a bait that is suspended above a sinker. Its form practically does not affect the fishing process itself, but most often it is made in the form of a pear. Sinkers can differ not only in configuration, but also in mass. Most often, their weight is 10 g. Experienced anglers choose weights depending on the type of fish and fishing conditions. The snap shot equipment, which uses a chain of pellets, is no less effective. Foreign fishermen prefer lead sinkers, made in the form of sticks with a ringlet. When fishing, they use a number of different devices that allow, without tying the knot, to quickly change the height of the bait in relation to the bottom of the reservoir.

“Drop shot” is a tool that is mounted on a piece of fluorocarbonate, although monofilament as well as braided fishing line can be used . In this case, it is necessary to choose soft material that will “play”, sinking to the bottom. “Drop shot” and pull-out rigs give a good result only when the mass of the bait and the thickness of the fishing line are clearly commensurate with each other.

The hook of the bait is fixed with a sting up to the main fishing line without a leash, using a special unit (double loop). It must be rigidly fixed at an angle of 90 degrees. The sinker is located 15-40 cm below the hook. As a rule, the "drop shot" equipment is used with soft silicone baits (worms, fry, salamanders). They are planted in 3 ways:

  • ordinary (the hook is threaded through the entire bait with the sting in the middle);
  • Per head;
  • with a puncture through the side.

Different nozzle options are designed for different types of fish.

Fishing rod selection

Drop shot (snap)

Despite the fact that the choice of sinker depends largely on the preferences of the fisherman, spinning for fishing on this equipment is fundamental. This is due to the fact that the feeding of the bait includes 3 stages that contradict each other:

1. Casting heavy equipment.

2. Work with a light bait.

3. Cutting the fish when the end of the rod is under a very large load.

Given the above, spinning for fishing on this equipment should have a sufficiently large "load capacity" and high sensitivity. When using universal rods, there is always a risk of breaking them during hooking or not feeling bite. The “drop shot” equipment gives the best result on spinning rods with a dough of 4-30 g. In the absence of such a rod, you can use the so-called “jig sticks”, which belong to the medium-light class. There are several classes of spinning rods for drop shots. All rods are divided into 2 types: for long casting and for fishing "plumb". They differ in length.

Fishing on drop shot

Drop shot and gear

For small predators, it is preferable to use the side nozzle of the bait. The same mount is also suitable for catching other small fish on a silicone worm. Mounting the bait by the head provides its most active game, which is very attractive to large predators. Some anglers use natural worms and fry as bait.

The most effective drop shot fishing is vertical bait posting. It is used almost everywhere. After casting, the sinker sinks to the bottom. In this case, the fisherman then weakens, then pulls the fishing line, without moving it. In this case, the bait moves up and down. If there is no bite for 5-7 minutes, the fishing point is changed.
