How it all began
In 1921, at the beginning of spring, a troupe began its work in Karelia, which was the first national troupe in the national drama theater. Its organizers were Finnish emigrant revolutionaries. The repertoire of the national theater of Petrozavodsk at first included only Finnish pre-revolutionary drama. In the performances, the artists showed the difficulties of life in the border village.
In the Petrozavodsk National Theater, the first actors were graduates of the Leningrad Art Studio.
In the 30s, many Finns emigrated to different countries, also to the USSR.
It is from these emigrants that the national studio of the Karelian State Drama Theater was created in Petrozavodsk. And the fall season was famous for the fact that the theater teamed up with the actors from the Drama College, which was the reason for the birth of the Karelian National Drama Theater. The repertoire has already changed, giving way to Soviet classics.
But from 1937 to 1940, the theater temporarily ceased operations. And only when the Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic in 1940 transformed into the Karelian-Finnish Soviet Socialist Republic, the theater resumed its activities. However, the war began, and the Republic was almost entirely occupied by the Finns. And the theater itself continued its activities under evacuation conditions in different places: in Siberia, in the city of Velsk and in other cities and regions, until, in the end, in 1943 he returned to Karelia.
New Theater
The Petrozavodsk National Theater surprised its audience with many things: both the cast and the excellent performance of its talented actors and actresses. However, the real novelty for the theater was that it was here for the first time in the history of theaters that headphones were used for simultaneous translation into Russian. This novelty was well received by the audience.
The Soviet plays continued to dominate the repertoire, although there were many representations in Finnish.
Tours and cast
Since 1951, a new chapter began in the history of the theater: touring and a set of popularity. For the first time, the Petrozavodsk National Theater began its tour from Moscow. A performance based on M. Gorky `` Vass Zheleznov '' was chosen. The success was indescribable.
For all the years of its activity in the theater, such talented and famous actors worked as: People's Artists of the USSR and Russia E. Tomberg, D. Karpova, T. Rompainen and many others.
Festivals and various institutions
The theater, starting in 2005, began to hold an international festival in which ethnic theaters from the states of the Barents / Euro-Arctic regions, as well as the Finno-Ugric world `` North Star '' could take part.
Also in 2006, a special department was opened here for drama actors. And the first graduates of these courses joined the work of the theater in the play `` Trouble from a Tender Heart ''. And after a wonderful release, their work was delivered here in different representations.
Today the National Theater of Petrozavodsk is the main institution of the city. It is popular because ticket prices here are not so high, which allows many to visit the theater at least once. And this is no accident, because the best and most talented actors and directors of the country are gathered here.
