Materials for the manufacture
It is best to make beds of wood. It will be cheaper than chipboard, and working with it is no less problematic. Here are just a bed of natural wood will serve you for several decades, while chipboard will last a maximum of ten years. As for the furniture array, it is much more expensive than wood-based materials. But it is allowed to use timber without significant defects.
And it is absolutely necessary to purchase material in closed heated warehouses. Those lumber stored in the open air or under sheds are suitable for use in furniture only after long-term drying is carried out. It is also necessary to pay attention to the fact that too much waste and warping of the material will appear.
It is still possible to make a bed for children, a small bedside table, a chest of drawers from such material, but such a wood will not be suitable for making a double bed, which is very heavily loaded. You can make a simple bed from chipboard without lamination. Her cost will be quite low, it will last a couple of years, but after that you will have to think about buying or making a new bed.
Nail connection
Today, nails are rarely used. This is the "grandfather" method, it is much easier to use confirmations. But do not drop nails. Firstly, it is a very cheap type of fastener. Secondly, it is not required to carry out preparatory work, for example, to drill holes. Thirdly, you do not need to use a special tool, which, among other things, gives a lot of waste. Fourth, an experienced woodworker can hammer 100 mm nails so that people in the next room cannot hear a knock.
On sale you can find corrugated nails that hold the tree much better than confirmations. Moreover, they self-tighten as the wood dries. In nodes in which the load cannot pull out the nail, the joint has maximum reliability. If the load is applied along the nail, such joints are still absolutely reliable. As a rule, drawers are made of boards or chipboard. Plywood for this purpose is not suitable, since it has strong flexibility. And if a plywood sheet has a large length, then under the influence of dynamic loads it begins to delaminate. The drawbars should be at least 3 cm thick. As for the width, for beds measuring 220x160 mm, it should be at least 200 mm.
In high-quality beds, drawers are attached with dowels. Sometimes, if aesthetics allow this, open connections are used. For example, you can use a half-tree tie or through spikes. It is not recommended to use keyed joints in this case, since they will not be able to exclude the shift of the drawbar along the key.
Simple beds are characterized by the fact that the drawers are assembled using metal fasteners. As a rule, hardware and angles are used. The support bars at the corners do not converge. Under the lounger on the lamellas, spacers are attached to them, which separate the lamella nests.
Bed legs
The load on the legs is very high. Please note that not all beds are stationary, sometimes they are moved. It is also worth noting that it is the legs that extinguish the remains of all the dynamics that affect the bed. If opposite loads interact, resonance occurs.
And this is the reason for the appearance of squeaks that cannot be removed in any way. In order to get rid of resonance, it is necessary that the legs have not only high strength, but also a sufficiently low degree of mechanical quality factor. For this reason, it is impossible to use boards or wood-particle material with an L-shaped cross section. It is recommended to make them exclusively from beams, with coniferous species.
In order to make strong legs capable of damping any vibration, it is necessary to use a bar with a cross section of at least 50x50 mm. If desired, the cross section can be doubled. But you can make a double bed with a metal frame. You weld the skeleton, which after simply sheathe wood. Legs of this design can withstand heavy loads.
Use of chipboard
It is worth noting that chipboard is very often used in the manufacture of cheap beds. But always in the design there is natural wood. The fact is that chipboard, despite its high strength, does not tolerate concentrated loads. On the edges, ends, faces, it has a minimum strength.
Small details of the bed are often stratified already at the manufacturing stage. Particleboard withstands much worse alternating loads than plywood. It is for these reasons that it is necessary to produce a support belt, a spar, legs, from wood. It should be noted that in a structure it is best to use a bar with a section of 40x40 mm. Of course, a double bed with an iron frame will be much stronger.
The nuances of making a bed from chipboard
And yet you can find double bed frames made of chipboard. Such structures are assembled on a support cross. There are no small elements in them, due to a cross with overlays, it is possible to dampen the dynamics that come from the sunbed and flooring. In constructions, plates should be more than 30 mm thick. They should be trimmed with a edging for countertops. If you install the bed on a flat floor, you can use polypropylene edges.
You do not have to put plastic legs. It is allowed to install boxes under the bed. There is such a bed and a drawback. If it is installed against the wall, then you will lose half the space under it. Please note that it is impossible to break the symmetry of the cross in such a bed. The wooden frame of the double bed gives rigidity to the structure, but the furniture made of thick plates can withstand significant loads.
