In the understanding of many, a text editor is a tool for typing and formatting text. But in fact, Word is a powerful multifunctional tool that can help reduce the time and financial costs of firms and organizations. In the editor from Microsoft it is easy to create not only text, but also a presentation, leaflet, advertising booklet. An example of the manufacture of the latter will be analyzed in this article, taking as a basis advertising of the hotel business.
Booklet - its purpose
Advertising goods and services through leaflets, calendars, business cards is very effective. Booklets stand in this row in a special place. A sheet of A4 format , folded in a certain way, contains a maximum of information about the company, organization, its products. The compact size of the booklet is another advantage over leaflets and posters.
The form
Booklets are printed, as a rule, on a standard-sized sheet of paper, which is folded subsequently, giving it the appearance of an accordion. The result is a small elongated little book with three pages. They are filled with advertising materials from two sides.
Of course, a booklet can also be made out of two pages. An example of this is theatrical programs. But this format is more convenient for placing mostly textual information. In the event that it is necessary to place a maximum of images, it is best to resort to the classic look.
Booklet in Word
To create promotional products in the most popular text editor, you need to download the template from the official website. There is no need to search for it on the network. It is enough to launch the Word, go to the File tab, select the Create command. Each installed version of the program already contains many templates for various types of documents. These are protocols, and flyers, invitations, and the like templates. Booklets are generally not available. But it’s enough to type the word “brochure” in the search bar, and the smart editor will independently find the desired one. Along with the booklet template, the program offers several types of other printing products, but for now it’s enough to choose the desired standard option.
After clicking on the template, the standard Word window opens, but the booklet is already displayed in it. This example can be easily changed by replacing the proposed information with your advertising materials.
Booklet Creation
The downloaded template, as already mentioned, is two ordinary sheets of format A 4. They are located in landscape orientation. It will not work to change it in Word, but this is not required.
The first sheet is three columns. The far left is the title page of the booklet. It usually reflects the name of the company and its logo. The two remaining columns can be filled with information about tours, conditions of registration, prices, offered excursions, various services. To do this, just click on the area already occupied by the template text and replace it with your own.
The second sheet is the back of the booklet. It also has information and illustrations. But you must remember that later you will have to fold the sheet with an accordion. And the flip side will simply be regular pages. To see how to position the information correctly, you need to print a booklet. Booklet Editing
The size, color, type of font in the template can be changed. The tab "Home" when working with a template is practically unlimited functionally. All formatting options are available, which cannot be said about the other tabs. So, for example, there is no way to break the text into a large number of columns, change the orientation of the sheet, set the field.
Limited functionality in working with drawings. There is no way to set boundaries, group images, select objects. In our case, when a booklet is created for the hotel business, there are enough functions for editing. But what if the brochure needs a colorful one, for example, a children's booklet? It can be created without resorting to a template.
Create a custom booklet
This process is best considered step by step. So:
- Launch the Word.
- Go to the “Page Layout” tab.
- Select the item "Orientation".
- Set the landscape position of the sheet.
- In the same tab - “Page Layout” - select the “Columns” function, mark their number. In our case, these are three.
- Set page separation. To do this, from the “Columns” item, select the “Other columns” line. In the drop-down box, put a check in the "Split" checkbox.
At this point, you can start filling out the first part of the booklet. Recall that the far left column is the title page. After filling it, the editor will display a dividing line, this makes the work more convenient. We create the second part of the booklet similarly to the first.

As you can see, it’s not difficult for anyone to make a booklet. The example considered by us is quite universal for any type of business. But there are times when you need to create a brochure with any special effects: an unusual complex shape, with a very large number of columns, and so on. A booklet program is what helps in a non-standard situation. Typically, this type of software has various complex graphic functionality that allows you to edit photos in the booklet mode. If a company or organization does not claim a prize in the field of the most colorful booklets, then there is simply no need to spend money on expensive software.
