Audio and video calling applications are today offered by so many software developers of this type. And Face Time is no exception. To work with the program was convenient, you should consider some important points.
What is FaceTime?
The Face Time application on an iPhone, any other Apple mobile device, laptops or stationary computer terminals of this manufacturer uses today’s popular VoIP technology in conjunction with binding to a mobile phone number if the program is used in this way.
In fact, the application very much resembles two well-known software products, which almost everyone knows about. Roughly speaking, Face Time is a simplified version of Skype and Viber, but only works exclusively on apple devices.
Application installation and registration issues
As for the installation of the application, you do not need to download it additionally, since the program is included in the standard set of most "apple" devices.
Here, however, it is worth making one exception. The fact is that you can use it only on strictly defined configurations. The application supports the following devices:
- iPhone of the fourth generation and higher;
- iPod fourth modification;
- iPad mini, iPad 2 and higher;
- Mac OS X 10.6.6 and higher computers and laptops.
Allegedly, it is simply impossible to install it on other devices of a rank lower. In addition, the application is deactivated by default, although the question of how to enable Face Time is solved quite simply.
To do this, go to the settings menu, where you should find a line indicating the name of the program, when you enter the settings of which just put the toggle switch (slider) in the on position. But the essence of using the Face Time application is to bind to the phone number. Therefore, in order to bind to the number, you need to register (activate) the program.
This is done using the Apple ID when you first enter the program, where you will need to create a new account in the main menu with the phone number. After confirming the code, the application will attach the existing mobile number to the registration record automatically. You may need to authenticate via the Internet or send an SMS message, after enabling data transfer for FaceTime and indicating the use of the specified Apple ID for the program.
Face Time: how to use? Call options
After creating an account and confirming registration data, you can make calls. To do this, in the contact list, which is also attached to the program automatically, you need to select a subscriber either by phone number or by email address.
After clicking on the name of the interlocutor, two buttons will appear in the contact field. On one will be a camera, on the other a handset. Accordingly, by pressing one of the buttons, the user selects a video or audio call.
Just like that, the application allows you to make a call to the interlocutor from the correspondence menu, where the same two buttons are used.
Another way to turn on the program is to press the corresponding button during a call. After confirming the call, the subscriber will open the application window, and the conversation will transfer to the appropriate mode. True, only Face Time supports audio calls on an iPhone with the installed iOS 7 and higher operating system. And gadgets like the iPod don't have this option at all. Sometimes there are problems with the iPad (it is believed that this mode is not available for these devices, although the corresponding icon appears when it is turned on). Most users do not find an explanation for this.
Some nuances of working with the application
Now a few words about some features of the Face Time program. The first and most important trouble is that during a conversation in the video call mode there is no way to turn off the front camera that transmits the image from your device to the interlocutor. You can do this only by pressing the Home button, and then - the camera will turn off for a short time, after which it will be used again.
But the advantage of the application is that it only needs to have a stable Internet connection to create a connection, and it’s not at all necessary that the mobile operator has coverage. And, of course, when trying to dial precisely with the help of this program, it must be installed with the interlocutor.

As for disabling or removing the application, there are two options for choosing: hiding the program icon or uninstalling it.
In the first case, you need to use the main settings menu with the transition to the restrictions section, where the enabled mode is simply deactivated on the application line (by moving the slider or unchecking). If restrictions on the device are not created, they must be done by using a special password.
Removing a program is not easy, as it is a standard component of the operating system. Nevertheless, there is a solution for this case. For example, on Mac OS X systems, you need to call the Terminal service through the menu of programs and utilities, in the console write the line cd / Applications /. Next, to uninstall the application, use the sudo rm -rf FaceTime.app/ command.
The program cannot be deleted on mobile devices, but you can unlink the phone number or Apple account. This can be done by resetting the application settings, for example, in a situation where the activation of the program was made from someone else's number. After that, you only need to specify your own.

As you can see, the program is quite simple to use, and does not cause any problems. Of course, there are fewer functions here than in the same Skype, but for most users, as a fast, simple and reliable communication tool, it will come in handy. In addition, the application is in many ways similar to another utility called Viber, so for those who are familiar with it, dealing with FaceTime will not be difficult.
